Celebrating its 47th year, “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” (which is produced by Dick Clark Productions and airs in the U.S. on ABC) is still the most high-profile televised New Year’s Eve event. Mariah Carey headlined the show from New York City’s Times Square in 2018 and 2017. In 2018, another Grammy-winning diva—Christina Aguilera—is taking the headlining spot. Ryan Seacrest will once again host the show, which begins airing from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET, followed by 11:30 p.m. to 2:13 a.m. ET. Jenny McCarthy will provide on-site reporting. Other performers in Times Square include Bastille, Dan + Shay and New Kids on the Block. Airing just after midnight Eastern Time, Post Malone will perform from a stop on his current tour in Brooklyn, New York, marking the first television performance of the new year. Meanwhile, the special has partnered with YouTube Music for the first time this year for cross-promotional programming.

Ciara will once again host the Los Angeles segments of the show that will feature performances that were mostly previously recorded. Artists in the show’s Los Angeles segments will include Lauren Alaina, Kelsea Ballerini, Bazzi, Kane Brown, Camila Cabello, The Chainsmokers, Ciara, Foster the People, Halsey, Dua Lipa, Ella Mai, Shawn Mendes, Charlie Puth and Weezer, as well as collaborations from Brown featuring Alaina; Macklemore with Skylar Grey; and The Chainsmokers featuring Ballerini.

Meanwhile, actress Lucy Hale (former star of “Pretty Little Liars”) will host the show’s second annual Central Time Zone celebration from New Orleans. Florida Georgia Line and Maren Morris will perform from the Allstate Fan Fest, leading up to the midnight countdown and fleur-de-lis drop near Jackson Square.  “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2019” is produced by Dick Clark Productions with Seacrest, Barry Adelman and Mark Bracco serving as executive producers. Larry Klein is producer.

News personality Maria Menounous. This year, Harvey and Menounous return to co-host the show, which airs on Fox from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET and 11 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. ET live; CT/MT/PT tape-delayed. Other performers include Jennifer Lopez, Bebe Rexha, Diana Ross and Andy Grammer.  Keith Urban and  Brett Young will perform at Jack Daniel’s Music City Midnight: New Year’s Eve in Nashville. “NBC Nightly News” and “Dateline NBC” anchor Lester Holt will also appear on stage before the iconic ball drop. “NBC’s New Year’s Eve” will be televised from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET, followed by the New Year’s countdown segment 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. ET. “NBC’s New Year’s Eve” is executive produced by Daly, Teigen and John Irwin through NBCUniversal Television Studio and Irwin Entertainment. New Year’s Eve Live With Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen

For the second year in a row, longtime friends Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen will co-host CNN’s New Year’s Eve celebration, which begins at 8 p.m. ET. CNN’s 11th annual New Year’s Eve Show, which is telecast live from New York City’s Times Square has a more star-studded lineup this year than in previous years. Gwen Stefani is scheduled to perform from her Las Vegas residency, while Keith Urban (who also appears on NBC’s New Year’s Eve Special), Dave Chappelle, Patti LaBelle and Jack Black also round out the show’s celebrity lineup.  New Year’s Eve Live With Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen will also spotlight Broadway musicals such as “The Band’s Visit,” “Wicked,” “Tootsie” and “Come From Away.” CNN’s New Year’s Eve Show begins at 8 p.m. ET, and will end at approximately 1:05 p.m. ET. CNN anchors Don Lemon and Brooke Baldwin will host a countdown from New Orleans at 12:30 a.m. ET. In 2017, Cohen replaced Kathy Griffin, who was notoriously fired from the show in May of that year for publicly posting a photo of herself holding up a fake bloody head of President Donald Trump. Griffin and Cooper had co-hosted CNN’s New Year’s Eve Show since 2007, but the Cooper/Cohen duo brought in the show’s highest ratings so far. Cooper and Cohen have an established rapport, since they have done numerous speaking engagements together.

Country star Lauren Alaina’s critically-acclaimed sophomore album, “Road Less Traveled,” landed on multiple “Best Of” lists including Billboard, Rolling Stone and Amazon, and it became the top-streamed female country album release of 2017. Praised as “full of life lessons and uplift” (People), the collection of 12 songs all written by the young star includes Lauren’s first No. 1 smash on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, “Road Less Traveled,” the Top 25 hit “Doin’ Fine,” and the deeply personal and inspiring, “Three.” The “sassy Southerner with killer pipes” (PARADE) has shared the stage with superstars including Alan Jackson, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Martina McBride and Jason Aldean, and the Georgia native is currently on tour with Cole Swindell and Dustin Lynch. In addition to earning nominations for ACM Vocal Event of the Year, CMA New Artist of the Year, and Billboard Music’s Top Country Song awards, Lauren took home this year’s ACM New Female Vocalist of the Year Award and CMT Collaborative Video of the Year Award for “What Ifs,” the four-time platinum selling No. 1 hit with childhood friend, Kane Brown. Lauren is one of CMT’s Next Women of Country and she received her first CMT Music Award for Breakthrough Video of the Year with her No. 1 hit “Road Less Traveled.”  Following the release of Road Less Traveled, Lauren has received nominations for the ACM Awards, CMA Awards, CMT Music Awards, Teen Choice Awards, Radio Disney Awards and Billboard Music Awards.

Bazzi, one of the biggest breakout artists of 2018, catapulted into mega-status with his massive hit “Mine.” The track, now certified two-times platinum, climbed to #1 on Billboard‘s Pop Songs airplay chart and top 3 on the Rhythmic Songs airplay chart. Bazzi solidified his spot as Pop’s most promising newcomer with his follow-up hit “Beautiful,” which included a collaboration with multi-platinum global chart-topping singer/songwriter Camila Cabello. Both tracks are featured on Bazzi’s breakthrough debut album, “Cosmic,” which has been streamed more than a billion and a half times globally. Written predominantly by Bazzi and produced by Rice N’ Peas and Bazzi, “Cosmic” has received ecstatic critical applause, with Billboard praising its “slinky, R&B-infused pop” and Playboy hailing the collection as “genre-bending,” praising Bazzi’s “warts-and-all approach to songwriting.” “Bazzi’s ‘Cosmic’ seems primed to linger near the top of the albums chart for quite a while,” wrote Stereogum, while USA Today echoed, “Bazzi’s career is just getting started.” Bazzi recently performed during The 92nd Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, continuing his recent streak of high profile TV appearances including Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, two performances on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “Today,” “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and The 2018 MTV Video Music Awards – as a Best New Artist nominee. Bazzi has spent much of the past year on The Cosmic Tour, including a sold-out headline run, a special guest role on Camila Cabello’s sold out “Never Be The Same” North American tour, and support on the European leg of Justin Timberlake’s blockbuster “Man Of The Woods Tour.”

Released November 9, Breakthrough star Kane Brown’s second album, “Experiment,” debuted #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, marking only the third country album release to top the Billboard 200 all year and the first time in 24 years a solo country act debuted atop the all genre chart for the first time with a sophomore album. Brown has continued to make history since first releasing his #1 debuting, Platinum-selling self-titled debut album in December 2016. In addition to Platinum and Multi-Platinum RIAA certifications, more than two-billion career audio and video streams, and sold-out concerts, Brown recently won 3 AMA awards, marking the most award wins for any first-time country nominee in the award show’s history. Noted by The New York Times as “one of Nashville’s most promising young stars and also one of its most flexible,” the 25-year-old Georgia native “distinguished himself with an unorthodox path and unvarnished lyrics” (Billboard) and “ultimately bring(s) folks together.” Brown topped the Billboard Top Country Albums chart with his Platinum-certified “Kane Brown,” and again with his “Deluxe Edition” reissue of the albumwhich also sent the set into Top 5 on the all-genre Billboard 200. That same week (October 28, 2017), Brown made history by becoming the first artist to top all five of Billboard’s main country charts with his No. 1 Top Country Album; a No. 1 debut on Country Digital Song Sales with the Double-Platinum “Heaven,” and No. 1s on Country Airplay, Hot Country Songs, and Country Streaming Songs with the Triple-Platinum “What Ifs” featuring Lauren Alaina.  Kane Brown held 12 weeks on Billboards Top Country Albums Chart at No. 1, and his multi-week, 3X Platinum No. 1 song “Heaven” was recently featured by Variety Magazine as the only “pure country” hit to be honored as one of the most streamed songs of the year. Additionally, Brown’s 4X-Platinum No. 1 hit “What Ifs” recently became the third most-streamed country song of all time. Multi Grammy nominated Cuban born singer/songwriter Camila Cabello (Epic Records/Syco) released her debut solo album, “Camila” in January 2018 to rave reviews. It debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart at the same time as her single “Havana” Reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making Camila the first soloist in nearly 15 years to reach the #1 spot on both the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 charts in the same week for the first time. The RIAA gold-certified album “Camila” launched its debut at #1 on over 100 iTunes charts around the world, breaking the record for most #1 positions for a debut album in iTunes history. At the end of 2018, Camila was nominated for two Grammy awards, “Best Pop Vocal Album” for her album”Camila” and “Best Pop Solo Performance” for “Havana” (Live). Earlier this year, she took home awards for Artist of the Year and Video of the Year for her hit “Havana” at the 2018 Video Music Awards. Beginning her official solo career after four years in Fifth Harmony, Cabello released her RIAA 7x platinum smash hit “Havana,” in August 2017 where it obtained the #1 spot on the pop radio chart, marking her second top 40 #1 as a solo artist. Furthermore, “Havana” hit #1 on iTunes overall top songs chart, #2 on the Spotify Global chart and hit #1 in 80 countries around the world. “Havana” is the first song by a female artist to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary, Pop Songs and Rhythmic Songs charts in 22 years, has earned 101 billion on-demand U.S. streams, according to Neilsen Music, and attained the longest run at No. 1 on Pop Songs for any song by a female artist since 2013. Her double-platinum single “Never Be The Same,” was released in January 2018 and peaked in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Cabello had already earned a chart-topping smash with her recent double platinum-certified hit “Bad Things” with MGK. The track generated over 400 million on-demand streams. As a result of its success, she became the fifth female artist to hit #1 on the Pop songs chart with and without a group. In November 2018, Camila was named the new ambassador for Save the Children.

Ciara is a Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter, producer, model and actress. Over her thirteen-year career, she has sold over 23 million records and 16 million singles worldwide, including chart-topping hits “Goodies,” “Ride,” “Oh,” “1, 2 Step,” “Body Party,” and “I Bet.” Most recently, Ciara has been scorching this summer with her new song “Level Up” which has transformed into a defining moment for the culture with the subsequent movement it has incited. Beyond clocking over 100 million views on YouTube, the song spent several weeks at #1 on the iTunes Top R&B/Soul Songs Chart and top 10 on iTunes overall, and attracted Missy Elliott and Fatman Scoop for a high-profile remix which also shot up the iTunes charts. Its high-powered dance initially inspired fans to shoot their own videos with the hashtag #LevelUpChallenge—stirring up a viral buzz that has seen over 2 million posts across social media and launched the video to a #1 trending topic on YouTube. Known for her incredible visuals and stellar dance abilities, Ciara’s videos have been viewed over 1.4 billion times accurately earning her the moniker of “Queen of Dance.”  Ciara continues to captivate with her social media prowess reaching over 50 million fans across her platforms and channels. Ciara is a devoted wife and mother of two as well as a philanthropist who is dedicated to improving the lives of children and empowering women across the globe.

Grammy® Award-nominated multi-platinum alternative pop maverick Halsey claimed the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 with her second release, “Hopless Fountain Kingdom,” an album Rolling Stone called “bold” in a 4-star review, claiming that “Halsey could go anywhere from here.” Indeed, since storming on the music scene in 2015, she has garnered over 7 billion streams globally and nearly 6 million global sales, graced the covers of magazines from Nylon to Billboard to Forbes, among others – a far cry from the New Jersey teen who’d escaped her suburban existence for New York, writing poetry, and scrounging money for concerts and her next slice of pizza. Halsey shows no signs of slowing down. This fall she released her new single, “Without Me,” which came on the heels of the summer hit “Eastside,” with Benny Blanco and Khalid, which garnered 300 million streams worldwide in just 2 months.  The track was the follow up to the platinum-certified smash with G-Eazy “Him & I,” which reached #1 on Billboard’s Pop Songs Airplay Chart and #1 at Top 40 radio—marking her second #1 since accompanying The Chainsmokers’ on “Closer,” which dominated for 11 weeks and has been certified Diamond by the RIAA. “Him & I” has accrued over 750 million streams worldwide and been certified platinum in several countries.  In addition her own two double-platinum-certified singles, “Bad At Love” and “Now Or Never” which also peaked in the top 3 on the Pop Songs Airplay chart. In addition, Halsey pushes creative boundaries expanding her influence and impact beyond music.   Earlier this year, Halsey spoke at the 2018 women’s march advocating for equality.  Her speech has been viewed millions of times and has moved people from around the world. As her star continues to rise, Halsey uses her voice to speak up for causes she passionately believes in, including disenfranchised youth, women’s rights, mental health and the LGBTQ community, proving that both she and her music can affect meaningful change, and that, yes, the 23-year-old can go anywhere from here. Yves Saint Laurent recently tapped her as a brand ambassador of YSL Beauté where she will help create and share makeup looks that speak to today’s millennial. After making her film debut in the animated 2018 summer movie “Teen Titans Go! To the Movies” as the voice of Wonder Woman, she can be seen this fall in “A Star Is Born,” starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. Halsey went from putting songs on SoundCloud to having her first full length album, “Badlands,” land at #2 on the Billboard 200 and become certified platinum by the RIAA within one year of its release, from couch surfing to witnessing her first tour sell out in minutes to touring globally with sold out dates on five continents (including a sold-out Madison Square Garden performance) and performing for the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Norway.  In 2017 she earned a 2017 Grammy nomination in the category of “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” for “Closer,” her Diamond Certified megahit with The Chainsmokers.

Grammy nominated Toronto born singer/songwriter Shawn Mendes released his highly anticipated self-titled third album in May 2018. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart as well as multiple additional worldwide markets, including Australia, Canada, Mexico, Belgium, Holland & more. “Shawn Mendes” made Shawn the third youngest solo artist to ever have three #1 albums on the Billboard 200 and became one of the top best-selling album debuts of 2018. The album shot to #1 on iTunes upon release in over 80 countries around the world. At the end of 2018, Shawn was nominated for two Grammy awards; “Song of the Year” for “In My Blood” and “Best Pop Vocal Album” for his self-titled album, “Shawn Mendes.”  Leading up to the album, he released multiple tracks including “Youth” Featuring Khalid, “In My Blood” and “Lost In Japan.” Both “In My Blood” and “Lost In Japan,” the first two songs released off the new album, experienced massive success, soaring to the #1 and #2 spots on the overall iTunes chart in the U.S, Top 5 on iTunes in 50 countries, and held the #1 and #2 spots on Spotify’s “New Music Friday” playlist. With “In My Blood,” Shawn became the first artist to ever have had four #1 singles on Billboard’s Adult Pop Songs airplay chart before the age of 20 In April 2017, Shawn released his 3x Platinum hit “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.” The track scored Shawn his second #1 single on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart, joining 7x Platinum single “Stitches.” Throughout his career, Shawn has achieved 3 consecutive #1 album debuts, 2 Platinum albums, and 8 consecutive platinum and multi-platinum singles. Worldwide, he has sold over 15 million albums, 100 million singles, and has amassed over 16 billion song streams and 5 billion YouTube views. The following is a press release from MTV International:

The “2018 MTV EMAs” opened with badass females ruling the night. Nicki Minaj and Little Mix joined forces for an empowering performance of their collaboration “Woman Like Me.” Just before being joined onstage, Minaj shook the house with her new song “Good Form.”

Global Icon Award honoree Janet Jackson delivered a blazing performance of hits over her legendary 40-year career. The stunning performance spanned four stages and included African drummers, flame torches, fire breathers, more than 20 dancers and an elevated stage surrounded by flames.

Throughout the star-studded global music celebration, Camila Cabello took home four EMA awards including “Best Artist.”

Other highlights include Hailee Steinfeld officially kicking off the show with an EMA award art heist, followed by Panic! At The Disco’s Brendon Urie scaling Bilbao Exhibition Centre’s exterior before crashing through the ceiling to perform “High Hopes.”

Modern Flamenco-inspired sensation and Spain native Rosalía, one of the most buzzed-about acts of the night, rolled on stage in a gigantic truck before rocking the entire house with “Malamente” alongside 24 dancers.

Throughout the night, Steinfeld commanded the stage with her captivating hosting skills, and for her performance, she gave a nod to her upcoming film Bumblebee by performing soundtrack number “Back to Life” from inside a yellow human vehicle, artistically created with more than 20 bodies.

Five-time “MTV EMA” Award-winning English rock band Muse performed “Pressure” from Bilbao’s famed San Mamés Stadium.

Superstar Bebe Rexha delivered a huge show highlight with a mesmerizing performance of “I’m a Mess” while in a bathtub surrounded by nurses and 100 dancers.

Halsey brought the rain—literally—to the arena with an intimate solo performance of “Without Me” surrounded by rainfall.

Jason Derulo sang an operatic rendition of Andrea Bocelli’s “Time to Say Goodbye” before flowing into his collaboration track “Goodbye” with David Guetta and Nicki Minaj, both of whom joined him on stage.

Alessia Cara gave a colorful performance for “Trust Me Lonely” against a backdrop of different settings.

Jack & Jack soared overhead with a thrilling aerial routine for “Rise” before crash landing onto a living room couch, joined on center stage by more than 100 fans.

To close out the show, Marshmello kept the energy booming alongside Anne-Marie for their platinum-certified track “FRIENDS,” followed by Bastille for “Happier.” Five giant inflatable Marshmello heads and hundreds of smaller Marshmello balls took over the venue as the grand finale.

This year’s show also awarded the first-ever “MTV EMA Generation Change Award” to elevate and empower the fearless, original young people who are changing the world.  MTV awarded five changemakers from around the globe, all under the age of 26, during the red carpet pre-show.  The winners are among a generation of young people who are tackling the world’s toughest problems – including fighting for environmental protection, refugee rights, ending child marriage, mental health support and LGBTQ+ equality — through music, storytelling and digital media.

Additionally, MTV recognized artists from around the globe with Worldwide Act awards and Best Local Act awards for multiple regions including Germany, Spain, Japan and Africa. Worldwide Act recognizes those artists who have evolved their footprint and established their names beyond their local borders in 2018.  They are selected from all the regional EMA award nominees by an international panel of MTV music executives. Full Worldwide Act winners list is available here.

With four prizes, including Artist of the Year, Taylor Swift was the top winner at the 2018 American Music Awards, which were presented on October 9 at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.  Camila Cabello, a former member of Fifth Harmony, also won four American Music Awards, including New Artist of the Year. Cabello was an opening act for Swift on Swift’s “Reputation” tour. Tracee Ellis Ross hosted the American Music Awards show for the second year in a row. The awards are voted for online by the public.

Swift now has 23 American Music Awards, the most ever won by a female artist. The previous record holder was Whitney Houston, who won 21 American Music Awards.

At the 2018 ceremony, Swift also did her first award-show performance in more than two years. She opened the 2018 American Music Awards with “I Did Something Bad.” Swift was one of several people on the show, including Ross and presenter Billy Eichner, who urged people to vote in their upcoming political elections.

With eight nominations each, Cardi B and Drake were the top nominees for the 2018 American Music Awards, but Drake (who did not attend the ceremony) did not win any of the prizes. Cardi B won three American Music Awards, and so did Kane Brown. Post Malone won two American Music Awards.

Other performers on the show included Twenty One Pilots (“Jumpsuit”), Carrie Underwood (“Spinning Bottles”), Cabello (“Consequences”), Mariah Carey (who sang the live world premiere of “With You”), Dua Lipa (who did a medley of “One Kiss” and “Electricity”), Jennifer Lopez (“Limitless”) and Ella Mai (“Boo’d Up”). Imagine Dragons had been announced as performers several weeks before the ceremony, but the band’s appearance was canceled with no explanation.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” stars Rami Malek, Joseph Mazzello and Gwilym Lee introduced Panic! At the Disco, which performed Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” from a concert in Brisbane, Australia.

There were also several on-stage collaborations. Cardi B featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin performed their hit song “I Like It” on television for the first time. Benny Blanco joined forces with Halsey and Khalid for their hit “Eastside.” Ciara featuring Missy Elliott did a medley of “Level Up” and “Dose.” Post Malone was joined by Ty Dolla $ign for their hit “Psycho” after Malone performed “Better Now.”  Shawn Mendes paired with Zedd for “Lost in Japan.” Gladys Knight, Ledisi, Mary Mary, Donnie McClurkin and CeCe Winans closed out the show did a special tribute to Aretha Franklin, who died of pancreatic cancer on August 16, 2018.

Other presenters included Kelsea Ballerini, Tyra Banks, Kane Brown, Chloe x Halle, Macaulay Culkin, Lauren Daigle, Sara Gilbert, Kathryn Hahn, Amber Heard, Vanessa Hudgens, Taran Killam, Leighton Meester, Heidi Klum, Liza Koshy, Lenny Kravitz, Normani, Rita Ora, Busy Philipps, Bebe Rexha, Florida Georgia Line, Thomas Rhett, Evan Ross, Ashlee Simpson-Ross, John Stamos, Amandla Stenberg, The Chainsmokers and Constance Wu.

YouTube Music was the presenting sponsor of the 2018 American Music Awards. Capital One Savor Card and Subaru of America, Inc. were sponsors of the show. The media partner was Cumulus Media/Westwood One.

The 2018 American Music Awards show was produced by Dick Clark Productions. Barry Adelman, Mark Bracco and host Ross were executive Producers. Larry Klein was a producer.

The following is a press release from Dick Clark Productions and ABC:

Dick Clark Productions and ABC today announced a performance from multiplatinum singer/songwriter Camila Cabello, as well as a first-time AMA collaboration from multi-platinum artist Shawn Mendes with award-winning artist/DJ/producer Zedd, for the “2018 American Music Awards.” Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross, the “2018 American Music Awards,” the world’s largest fan-voted awards show, will broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.

International film, tv and music sensation and three-time American Music Award-winning artist, Jennifer Lopez will debut a brand new single from her upcoming feature film, Second Act, at the “2018 American Music Awards.” The film follows Lopez’s character Maya, a 40-year-old woman struggling with frustrations from unfulfilled dreams. Until, that is, she gets the chance to prove to Madison Avenue that street smarts are as valuable as book smarts, and that it’s never too late for a Second Act. The new comedy, which also stars Leah Remini, Milo Ventimiglia and Vanessa Hudgens, hits theaters December 14.

British singer, songwriter Ella Mai will perform her smash hit “Boo’d Up” at the “2018 American Music Awards.” The British artist, who just tied the record for longest running No. 1 song by a woman on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, will also deliver an encore performance of “Trip” for Comcast’s Xfinity TV customers exclusively on Xfinity On Demand immediately following the telecast.

American Music Award-winning rock duo, Twenty One Pilots, will return to the AMAs stage to deliver a YouTube Music Moment at the “2018 American Music Awards.” The band will treat fans to their alternative/indie track “Jumpsuit,” which peaked at No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart and is the fastest-rising song to reach No. 1 on the Alternative Songs chart since the 2009 and garnered the top spot on the Rock Airplay chart. “Jumpsuit” is the first single from the band’s fifth studio album, TRENCH.

Up for five nominations this year – including New Artist of the Year presented by Capital One® Savor® Card and Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock – Cabello will perform a song from her first studio album Camila, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Shawn Mendes – who took home the accolade for Favorite Artist – Adult Contemporary in 2017 and is again nominated under the category this year – will perform a track from Mendes’ self-titled third studio album, which debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 and marked Mendes’ third number one album in the United States, alongside multiplatinum selling artist/DJ/producer Zedd. Also a five-time American Music Award nominee, Zedd is nominated for Collaboration of the Year and Favorite Artist – Electronic Dance Music (EDM) this year.

Cuban born singer/songwriter Camila Cabello (Epic Records / SYCO) released her debut solo album, CAMILA in January 2018 to rave reviews. It debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart at the same time as her single “Havana” Reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making Camila the first solo artist in nearly 15 years to hold the #1 spot on both the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 charts simultaneously with their first #1. The RIAA gold-certified album, CAMILA, launched its debut at #1 on over 100 iTunes charts around the world, breaking the record for most #1 positions for a debut album in iTunes history. Beginning her official solo career after four years in Fifth Harmony, Cabello released her RIAA triple-platinum smash hit “Havana,” in August 2017 where it obtained the #1 spot on Billboard’s Pop Songs airplay chart, marking her second #1 as a solo artist. Furthermore, “Havana” hit #1 on iTunes overall top songs chart, #2 on the Spotify Global chart and hit #1 in 80 countries around the world. “Havana” is the first song by a female artist to go #1 on Billboard’s Adult Pop Songs, Pop Songs, and Rhythmic Songs airplay charts in 22 years and recently crossed 765M cumulative streams and attained the longest run at #1 on the Pop Songs chart by a female artist in a lead role in nearly five years. Her next single “Never Be The Same,” was released in January 2018 and peaked in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Cabello had already earned a chart-topping smash with her recent double platinum-certified hit “Bad Things” with MGK. The track generated over 240M Spotify streams.

Toronto born multi-platinum singer/songwriter Shawn Mendes released his highly anticipated self-titled third album in May 2018. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart as well as multiple additional worldwide markets, including Australia, Canada, Mexico, Belgium, Holland & more. Shawn Mendes made Shawn the third youngest solo artist to ever have three #1 albums on the Billboard 200, and became one of the top best-selling album debuts of 2018. The album shot to #1 on iTunes upon release in over 80 countries around the world. Leading up to the album, he released multiple tracks including “Youth” Featuring Khalid, “In My Blood” and “Lost In Japan.” Both “In My Blood” and “Lost In Japan,” the first two songs released off the new album, experienced massive success, soaring to the #1 and #2 spots on the overall iTunes chart in the U.S, Top 5 on iTunes in 50 countries, and held the #1 and #2 spots on Spotify’s “New Music Friday” playlist. With “In My Blood,” Shawn became the first artist to ever have had four #1 singles on Billboard’s Adult Pop Songs airplay chart before the age of 20. In April 2017, Shawn released his 3x Platinum hit “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.” The track scored Shawn his second #1 single Billboard’s Pop Songs chart, joining 7x Platinum single “Stitches.” Throughout his career, Shawn has achieved 3 consecutive #1 album debuts, 2 Platinum albums, and 8 consecutive platinum and multi-platinum singles. Worldwide, he has sold over 12 million albums, 100 million singles, and has amassed over 16 billion song streams and 5 billion YouTube views. Shawn has completed two sold-out world tours with over one million tickets sold, selling out legendary arenas including NYC’s Madison Square Garden, Toronto’s Air Canada Centre, and London’s O2 Arena in minutes. Shawn Mendes: The Tour begins in March 2019, with over 60 dates currently announced across Europe, North America and Australia, with more to be announced soon. He topped Billboard’s “21 Under 21” in 2017 and has been featured on Forbes “30 Under 30,” Spotify’s “25 Under 25,” and Time Magazine’s “Time 100 Most Influential”. In February 2018, ROI Influencer Media recognized Shawn as the #1 Most Influential Artist and #1 Most Influential Teen across all social media platforms.

Multi-platinum, GRAMMY award-winning artist/DJ/producer Zedd made his debut with Clarity after signing with Interscope in 2012 and has been breaking down barriers surrounding music genres ever since. This fall, Zedd has teamed up with Shawn Mendes for a remix of “Lost In Japan” from Shawn’s latest album. The remix is the follow up to Zedd’s 2018 singles, “Happy Now” with Elley Duhé and his monster hit, “The Middle” with Maren Morris and Grey.  Zedd released “The Middle” in January 2018, and earned him his second #1 on Billboard’s Pop Songs airplay chart. “The Middle” held the top spot for seven weeks and has spent 35 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. Digitally, the song has amassed over 1 billion streams. In 2017, Zedd released “Stay” with Alessia Cara, which held the #1 spot on the Pop Songs airplay chart for six consecutive weeks and earned Zedd his second GRAMMY nomination. In 2015, Zedd released True Colors, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Throughout his career, Zedd has worked with a diverse range of artists to create hits, including Hayley Williams on platinum hit “Stay The Night,” which racked up more than 400 million streams, and Selena Gomez on platinum track “I Want You To Know,” which spent six weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.

Actor, singer, film & television producer, fashion designer, bestselling author, entrepreneur, and humanitarian Jennifer Lopez has created one of the most successful and well-known brands in entertainment. Since Lopez’s first album, On the 6, debuted in 1999, she has been transforming the global music scene and has sold over 75 million records worldwide, including 40 million albums. She has had 17 top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, 10 of which reached the top 10, and three #1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart. She became the first woman to receive the lifetime achievement Icon Award at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards for outstanding contribution to pop music. In addition to her music work, Lopez’s numerous films have grossed over $2.9 billion worldwide. Lopez has had five films open at #1, and her portrayal of the Latin music sensation in Selena earned her widespread acclaim including a Golden Globe Nomination and an ALMA Award. In 2001, Lopez made history by being the first female artist to have a #1 movie and #1 album simultaneously. The Wedding Planner was the nation’s top grossing film while her second album, J.Lo, was #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. She holds that record to this day. Lopez can next be seen starring in and producing STX’s upcoming feature film, Second Act, alongside Leah Remini, Milo Ventimiglia, and Vanessa Hudgens. The film is slated for release in December 2018. In 2016, Lopez premiered her one-of-a-kind Las Vegas show entitled All I Have at the Zappos Theater in Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.  The sold out shows, complete with new costumes, set design and choreography have been praised by critics, with the Los Angeles Times hailing her the “Queen of the Strip.” She performed 40 shows a year through September 2018 and concluded the residency with gross ticket sales topping more than $100 million during the 3-year-long run. Lopez also serves as a judge on NBC’s new dance competition show, World of Dance. For its debut, the show became the most-watched premiere for a summer alternative series in nine years and the biggest regular time slot premiere in all of 2017. The show was renewed for a third season in May 2018. In addition to her work in film, television, and music, Lopez dedicates her time to several humanitarian causes. In September 2017, following Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria, Lopez announced that she would be donating $1 million to humanitarian aid for Puerto Rico. She then launched a humanitarian relief campaign entitled Somos Una Voz, an effort supported by various celebrities to rush supplies to areas affected by Hurricane Maria. Lopez presented a subsequent concert and telethon for disaster relief, “One Voice: Somos Live!” which raised over $35 million. In April 2018, Lopez was named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People, and in August 2018, she was became the 2018 recipient of the MTV Video Music Award’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. With a cumulative film gross of over $2.9 billion and global record sales exceeding 80 million, it’s clear that Jennifer Lopez established herself as one of the most influential performers of our time and will continue to dazzle audiences with her upcoming film, television, and music productions as a global icon and the ultimate multihyphenate.

2018 MTV Video Music Awards: Camila Cabello, Cardi B win big

August 20, 2018

by Carla Hay

It was a big night for female artists at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, which took place August 20 at Radio City Music Hall in New York. Camila Cabello won the prizes for Video of the Year (for “Havana”) and Artist of the Year. Cardi B won the most awards (three): Best New Artist; Best Collaboration (for teaming up with DJ Khaled on Jennifer Lopez’s “Dinero”); and Song of the Summer (for “I Like It,” her collaboration with J Balvin and Bad Bunny).

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez gave a powerhouse performance before accepting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. During her high-energy, dance-filled performance, she did a medley of her hits, including “Waiting for Tonight,” “On the Floor,” “Ain’t Your Mama,” “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” Get Right,” “Jenny From the Block” and “Dinero.” She was also joined by Ja Rule for “I’m Real” and “Ain’t It Funny.” During her speech, she thanked her family, friends and business associates, and gave her biggest thanks to her twins Max and Emme: “Everything changed,” she said of the “two angels” who came into her life. “I knew I had to be better. I knew I had to go higher, I had to be stronger than I had been before.”

Before presenting the award for Video of the Year, Madonna gave tribute to Aretha Franklin, who died of pancreatic cancer on August 16, by telling a story of how listening to the Queen of Soul’s music motivated and influenced her when Madonna was a struggling artist.

Other multiple winners were Childish Gambino’s “This Is America,” which won three prizes: Best Video With a Message, Best Direction and Best Choreography.  “Apeshit” from The Carters (also Beyoncé and Jay-Z), which was filmed at The Louvre in Paris, won the awards for Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography. J Balvin also won two prizes: the aforementioned Song of the Summer (for “I Like It” with Cardi B and Bad Bunny) and Best Latin Video for “Mi Gente” with Willy William.

The show closed with a surprise collaboration between Aerosmith and Post Malone, who performed “Toys in the Attic” together. Before he joined Aerosmith on stage, Post Malone performed “Rockstar” with 21 Savage. Earlier that night, “Rockstar” won the award for Song of the Year.

Other performers included Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj (who performed at the Oculus near the World Trade Center), Travis Scott featuring James Blake, Shawn Mendes, Maluma, Panic! At the Disco and Logic featuring Ryan Tedder. For the first time, the MTV VMAs had a PUSH stage to showcase emerging artists during the show who were named MTV’s PUSH artist in the past year. Hayley Kiyoko, Jessie Reyez, Juice WRLD and PRETTYMUCH were the performers on on the first-ever VMAs PUSH Artist Stage.

Presenters included Backstreet Boys, Millie Bobby Brown, Cardi B, DJ Khaled, G-Eazy, Jimmy Fallon, Gucci Mane, Tiffany Haddish, Kevin Hart, Keegan-Michael Key, Kyle, Karlie Kloss, Lenny Kravitz, Lil Uzi Vert, Blake Lively, Shay Mitchell, Olivia Munn, Rita Ora, Liam Payne, Bebe Rexha, Shanina Shaik, Amandla Stenberg and Teyana Taylor.

At the VMAs pre-show, the performers were Backstreet Boys, Bazzi and Bryce Vine. For the first time, the MTV VMAs will have a PUSH Artist stage for emerging artists to perform at before the show. The artists selected to perform on this stage are Bazzi, Hayley Kiyoko, Jessie Reyez, Juice WRLD and PRETTYMUCH.

Dick Clark Productions and NBC today announced the first round of performers for the “2018 Billboard Music Awards.” Top New Artist nominee, Camila Cabello, UK’s hottest act, Dua Lipa, and multi-platinum selling singer/songwriter, Shawn Mendes, will all take the stage on a night filled with music’s biggest names!

Hosted by “The Voice” coach Kelly Clarkson, the “2018 Billboard Music Awards” will broadcast LIVE from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 20 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on NBC. The three-hour telecast will feature performances from this year’s hottest musical acts, unexpected collaborations and buzzworthy moments that celebrate 60 years of the Billboard Hot 100!

Talent fun facts include:

  • Camila Cabello is a four-time Billboard Music Award nominee this year with nods for Top New Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Collaboration for “Havana” featuring Young Thug and the fan-voted Billboard Chart Achievement Award. She started off her solo career with a bang, scoring a top 10 hit in 2016 on the Pop Songs chart with “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” her duet with Shawn Mendes. She followed it up with three more top 40 hits on the list, including the No. 1 “Bad Things” with Machine Gun Kelly. In 2017-18, she logged her biggest hit yet, as the single “Havana,” featuring Young Thug, spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Pop Songs chart and became her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track ushered in her debut album, Camila, which opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and made her the first woman in three years to hit No. 1 with her debut full-length album.
  • The “2018 Billboard Music Awards” appearance will mark Dua Lipa’s first performance on an award show in the United States. The U.K. pop superstar has quickly ascended on the U.S. Billboard charts this last year, currently with her empowering anthem “IDGAF” rising on Billboard’s Top 40 chart following a trio of No. 1 hits on the Dance Club Songs chart: “Blow Your Mind (Mwah),” “Be the One” and “New Rules.” The latter track became a smash single for the pop singer-songwriter across multiple charts and radio formats as it sailed to No. 1 on the Pop Songs chart and No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 2018. “New Rules,” taken from her self-titled debut studio album, has gone on to earn more than 430 million on-demand streams in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music. Additionally, the video for the track has amassed 1.1 billion views on YouTube, making Dua the first female solo artist to reach 1 billion views on the platform.
  • At just 19-years-old, singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes has captured two No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart, seven top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, and two No. 1s on the Pop Songs chart. He blasted onto Billboard’s charts in 2015 with his debut hit “Life of the Party,” and has continued to rack up smash singles. His most recent hit, “In My Blood,” has already hit the top 40 on the Hot 100 and top five on the Digital Song Sales chart. In total, Mendes’ albums have earned over 3 million equivalent album units in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music, and his catalog of songs have generated nearly 3 billion on-demand streams. This year, Mendes is nominated for the fan-voted Top Social Artist Award.
Cuban-born singer/songwriter Camila Cabello (Epic Records / SYCO) released her debut solo album, CAMILA, in January 2018 to rave reviews. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart the same week that her single “Havana” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The RIAA platinum-certified album, CAMILA, launched its debut at No. 1 on over 100 iTunes charts around the world, breaking the record for most No. 1 positions for a debut album in iTunes history. Beginning her official solo career after four years in Fifth Harmony, Cabello released her RIAA 5x-platinum smash hit “Havana,” in August 2017, which later obtained the No. 1 spot on the Billboard’s Pop Songs chart, marking her second No. 1 as a solo artist. Furthermore, “Havana” hit No. 1 on the iTunes overall top songs chart, No. 2 on the Spotify Global chart and hit No. 1 in 80 countries around the world. “Havana” is the first song by a female artist to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary, Pop Songs and Rhythmic Songs charts in 22 years, has earned 736 million on-demand U.S. streams, according to Nielsen Music, and attained the longest run at No. 1 on Pop Songs for any song by a female artist since 2013.  Her next single, “Never Be The Same,” was released in January 2018 and is currently No. 2 on Pop Songs and inside the top 15 of the Billboard Hot 100. Cabello had already earned a chart-topping smash with the recent double platinum-certified hit “Bad Things” with Machine Gun Kelly. The track generated over 350 million on-demand streams and a result of its success, she became the fifth female artist to hit #1 on the Pop Songs chart with and without a group.

With the release of her self-titled debut album, London-born, Kosovo-raised Dua Lipa has won over the hearts of fans and press alike. The songs on Dua Lipa announce the arrival of a new force in pop—irresistible on the dance floor, thoughtful under closer inspection, constantly discovering creative possibilities. Her critically acclaimed debut has made several “best of” lists, from The FADERRolling Stone and TIME. Her powerful anthem “New Rules” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart and No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, and its viral video made her the youngest female solo artist to reach 1 billion views on YouTube. Dua continues to find herself on the top of the charts, consistently being one of the top-streamed female artists in the world on Spotify and reaching No. 1 on the Top 40 chart. Most recently, Dua made BRIT Award history, becoming the first woman artist to pick up five nominations, taking home the awards for British Breakthrough Act and British Female Solo Artist.

Shawn Mendes recently released new tracks “In My Blood” and “Lost In Japan” from his highly-anticipated third album. Both tracks have already experienced massive success, soaring to Nos. 22 and 64, respectively, on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 1 and No. 2 on the overall iTunes chart in the U.S, Top 5 on iTunes in 50 countries, and holding the No. 1 and No. 2 spots on Spotify’s “New Music Friday” playlist. The tracks have received critical acclaim from outlets including Rolling Stone, Billboard, Idolator, Variety and Paste, with “In My Blood” topping TIME magazine’s “5 Songs You Need to Listen to This Week” and The New York Times’ “The Playlist.” “In My Blood” and “Lost In Japan” are the first new songs released by Shawn since his 3x Platinum hit “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” in April 2017. The track scored Shawn his second No. 1 single on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart, joining 6x Platinum single “Stitches.” With “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back,” Shawn also became the first artist to ever have three No. 1 singles on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart before the age of 20. Throughout his career, Shawn has achieved two No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 with Handwritten (2015) and Illuminate (2016), two Platinum albums, and seven consecutive Platinum and multi-Platinum singles. Worldwide, he has sold over 10 million albums, 100 million singles, and has amassed over 11 billion song streams and 4 billion YouTube views. Shawn has completed two sold-out world tours with over one million tickets sold, selling out legendary arenas including NYC’s Madison Square Garden, Toronto’s Air Canada Centre, and London’s O2 Arena in minutes. He topped Billboard’s “21 Under 21” in 2017 and has been featured on Forbes “30 Under 30,” Spotify’s “25 Under 25,” and Time Magazine’s “Most Influential Teens” for 4 consecutive years. In February 2018, ROI Influencer Media recognized Shawn as the #1 Most Influential Artist and #1 Most Influential Teen across all social media platforms.

Nominations for the “2018 Billboard Music Awards” were announced earlier this month on NBC’s “TODAY Show” and on a livestream from Billboard’s NY office. Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran tie for the most nominations this year with 15 each.

Voting for the two fan voted categories, Billboard Chart Achievement Award and Top Social Artist, will open in the coming weeks and additional details will be available soon.

“Billboard Music Awards” nominees are based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay, touring and social engagement, tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound. The finalists and award winners are determined using data reflecting a 12-month tracking period.  The awards are based on the reporting period of April 8, 2017 through March 31, 2018. Since 1940, the Billboard charts have been the go-to guide for ranking the popularity of artists, songs and albums, and are the ultimate measure of success in music.
