The following is a press release from Marriott International:

A wave of change has arrived at Courtyard Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port. Guests can now experience reimagined accommodations and even greater service with the arrival of a new general manager.

Transforming comfortable visits into unforgettable getaways, the Dania Beach hotel has just finished a $1.6 million room renovation. Guests will feel at ease the moment they arrive and see the calming blue and gray tones in new carpet and wall coverings. The addition of beach scene artwork, taken by a local photographer, sets the tone for a relaxing retreat. New drapes, ergonomic desk chairs and 43-inch LG TVs were also part of the makeover.

“We are beyond thrilled to offer an enhanced experience for our guests,” said Dace Stewart, the new General Manager of the hotel. “Our renovated rooms capture the spirit of the area while providing a tranquil getaway for professionals and vacationers. Fresh from the airport or cruise terminal, our guests will appreciate a portly stay for a day, week or extended visit.”

Stewart began his long-lasting journey with Marriott 13 years ago as a front desk supervisor at Charlotte Marriott City Center in North Carolina. He then joined the JW Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort in Florida, rising to the level of senior assistant director of finance. In 2015, he was named director of finance at Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay. The recently appointed general manager at the Dania Beach, Florida hotel hopes to build upon his team’s impeccable service in the coming months.

When Stewart is not working, he loves to travel, work up a sweat at a heart-pumping spin or boot camp class and do volunteer work. He said he is looking forward to exploring his new hometown that offers so many things to do and see not only for his family but for his hotel guests.

The soft white sand on Dania Beach is among the many popular attractions in the area. The beach’s pier is an ideal location to catch a breathtaking sunrise or sunset over the ocean and is also known as a fishing hotspot. With the hotel being just 2 miles from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and close to Port Everglades, visitors can fly or cruise in for a quick getaway or extended vacation and head to Las Olas Boulevard to explore the unique boutiques, shops, restaurants and art galleries that have made the thoroughfare a true destination. Seminole Hard Rock casino and The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale also are nearby.

W Shanghai – The Bund opens for business

The following is a press release from W Hotels Worldwide

W Hotels Worldwide, part of Marriott International, today unveiled W Shanghai – The Bund, located in the heart of one of the world’s most energetic cities.  With limitless views overlooking the Huangpu River, W Shanghai will set the scene on the North Bund.  Owned by Sinar Mas Group, the hotel features a blend of bold design and decadent style which combines to create a captivating contrast of Shanghai’s past and its avant-garde present.

Shanghai is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, and its engaging nightlife, spirited fashion scene and passion for what’s new/next makes it an ideal destination for the W brand,” said Anthony Ingham, Global Brand Leader, W Hotels Worldwide. “Our hotels across the world are incredibly unique- each reinterpreting its destination through design that is both hyper-local and yet, clearly W. The electrifying design of W Shanghai – The Bund is no exception, solidifying its position as a global flagship for W that is sure to attract both guests and savvy locals alike.”

Designed by the acclaimed G.A Design, the hotel showcases an exciting combination of historic and modern influences, such as Hai Pai – the art of combining the old and the new, East and West.  This is evident in both the hotel’s location, perfectly positioned between the Suzhou Creek and the Huangpu River, as well as the surrounding locale, where Art Deco buildings sit alongside opulent Chinese mansions. W Shanghai – The Bund draws upon colonial glamour and futuristic motifs, with nearly all guestrooms featuring views of the Huangpu River due to the uniquely curved frame of the building’s edifice.

“Over the past few years we have seen incredible growth worldwide across our brands, with the China market becoming increasingly important for Marriott International,” said Stephen Ho, Chief Executive Officer, Greater China, Marriott International. “The opening of the W Shanghai – The Bund underscores the ambitious expansion of Marriott International’s Luxury Brands in Greater China.”

An Electric Welcome
Upon arrival, guests will be greeted by neon light installations throughout the hotel’s Living Room (the W brand’s take on the staid hotel lobby).  For centuries, Shanghai-locals have honored the Lilong tradition, in which wet laundry is hung on lines to dry at varying heights down narrow laneways.  This installation was designed as a modern reinterpretation of this classic scene. The Welcome Desk (reception area) features a kaleidoscopic fixture, mirroring the constant flow of guests through the area.  The ‘Melting Qipao’ pattern, a representation of Shanghai as a melting pot of cultures, can be seen on the walls of the WC (restroom).

A Fantastic Suite at W Shanghai – The Bund. (Photo courtesy of Marriott International)

W Shanghai – The Bund features 374 stylish guestrooms and suites, each appointed with the signature W bed adorned with a cheeky pillow in the shape of Shanghai’s famous Xiaolongbao (soup) dumpling and chopsticks.  Thirty-five of the rooms are suites, including the Cloud on the Bund, which includes highlights such as a LED wall and a hanging bed.  The duplex Extreme WOW Suite (the brand’s take on the presidential suite) boasts more than 4,000 square feet of living space, along with a hanging neon installation in the shape of lips blowing out dragon smoke. In addition to the epic views of the Huangpu River and iconic Pudong skyline, all rooms also feature switchable privacy glass and Nespresso Coffee machines.

Rise and Dine
W Shanghai – The Bund offers five intriguing places to socialize and dine. The Kitchen Table, with its interactive open kitchen, is inspired by a modern New York bistro and celebrates the legacy of Shanghai’s flourishing trade. YEN showcases the next evolution of Cantonese dining where traditional dishes are reinterpreted. Pre-dinner cocktails at LIQUID AT YEN, a hidden speakeasy, is the perfect evening prelude to transport guests to the glamorous golden years of Shanghai’s 1920s cocktail scene featuring a handcrafted selection of concoctions mastered by the on-site “Cocktail Professor”. The playfully elegant WOOBAR transforms from a daytime lounge into a vibrant evening cocktail bar. And finally, WET (the hotel’s pool) and WET BAR offer incredible sweeping views of the electric Shanghai skyline.

“We are infusing so much energy into this city with W Shanghai – The Bund,” said Christian Humbert, General Manager, W Shanghai – The Bund. “We are bringing guests closer to the music, design, fashion and Fuel (the brand’s take on fitness) scenes in Shanghai while providing our signature Whatever/Whenever service, delivering whatever guests want, whenever they want it, in this incredible city.”

Amped Up Meetings + Innovative Spa Treatments
Mixing work with play, guests will be captivated by nearly 6,000 square meters of meeting and events space.  At more than 2,000 square meters, the Great Room is the largest hotel event space in Western Shanghai, and boasts 6.2-meter ceilings in a setting inspired by an opulent expression of the Golden Age.  The entrance to the Great Room features a series of oversized mirror collages with a Qipao motif, overlaid by a delicate Art Deco-inspired screen, reflecting the tension and contrasts between old and new Shanghai.  The 660-square-meter Mega Room, in addition to the Studios and Strategy spaces, all cleverly adapt their industrial charm to perfectly suit each event.

The AWAY Spa offers massages, body treatments, facials and quick fixes, all set to leave guests glowing.  Guests can also step into the ultra-modern FIT gym that offers 24/7 access to the newest Technogym equipment, or take part in a yoga or tai chi class on the hotel’s wooden deck.

Le Méridien Visconti Rome has grand opening after a $20 million renovation

The following is a press release from Marriott International:

Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts, part of Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR), today marked a milestone: reintroducing the brand to Italy and reimagining an iconic palace to debut Le Méridien Visconti Rome. Following its meticulous renovation and conversion, Le Méridien Visconti Rome, owned and managed by the Toti Group, now boasts custom-designed guestrooms, suites and a transformation of the hotel’s public spaces, including the brand’s signature lobby concept: Le Méridien Hub.

“After reintroducing the brand’s flagship hotel in Paris last year, Le Méridien continues to bring glamour to travel with the opening of Le Méridien Visconti Rome, showcasing the best of Italian design and our bold Destination Unlocked positioning,” said George Fleck, Vice President, Global Brand Marketing & Management, Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts. “With its storied past, the hotel sets the stage for guests to discover the destination – whether you are having a coffee in the brand’s signature Hub surrounded by stunning Italian contemporary art or having an aperitif on the hotel’s rooftop with enchanting views of the city.”

Located in the charming Prati district, ideally situated between the Spanish Steps and the Vatican, Le Méridien Visconti Rome is deceivingly residential with 240 guestrooms and suites – ideal for business, leisure and group travel.  Led by ara Design International, the hotel’s redesign is rooted in a classic Italian style with understated, geometrical references to Rome’s fabled treasures, including the Pantheon.

“Le Méridien brand’s philosophy complements the distinctive traits of Italian culture, art, design and music,” said Marina Toti, CEO, Le Méridien Visconti Rome. “We are proud to be part of Marriott International, and with this magnificent hotel serving as an iconic hotel for Le Méridien, we are confident we will achieve great results and success.”

Mid-Century Modernism Meets Italian Style
The hotel’s interior design is a contemporary realisation of mid-century modernism: a material palette of marble, wood and natural textures juxtapose vibrant textile blocks with references to the work of famous Italian designer and architect Gio Ponti, who was popular during the time of the building’s initial construction.

The Hub at Le Méridien Visconti Rome, featuring the Longitude 12 Bar & Bistrot, is a social gathering place for creative people to converse, collaborate and exchange with communal tables and chairs that invite connection and socialising. The focal point of the Hub is the espresso machine, drawing guests to the aroma, sounds and visuals of a master barista at work. The Longitude 12 Bar & Bistrot transforms from a bright and fresh coffee house by day, to a sophisticated cocktail bar by night, revealing a progressive angle on a traditional bar.  ara Design International facilitated the design elements of transition from day to night with rotating panels, lowered ambient light and a creative use of mirrors.

The hotel also features a stunning rooftop terrace, offering an inspiring panoramic view of the Eternal City, along with the wide leafy streets of Rome’s fashionable Prati district. The rooftop terrace is the ideal location to enjoy sunset during summertime sipping the brand’s signature Le Méridien Sparkling programme.

Le Méridien Visconti Rome offers ten versatile meeting rooms, totaling 170 square meters. These redesigned meeting rooms reference organic shapes and sophisticated simplicity, ensuring that guests feel continually engaged and inspired.

Unlock Art at Le Méridien Visconti Rome
A vital element of Le Méridien Visconti Rome is art, providing guests a different point of view on the classical heritage of Rome, along with a new way to discover the city and the Italian contemporary art scene.

Guests immediately have a sense of the art programme upon arrival, greeted by a stimulating piece of artwork at the hotel’s entrance: a bas relief map of Rome showcasing the Eternal City’s iconic sites. The hotel’s eclectic art collection features different movements, from abstract art to figurative works, created with different materials, such as the mosaic by Ascanio Renda, the rubber-made artworks by Paolo Canevari, and more traditional oil on canvas paintings. Much of the artwork featured at Le Méridien Visconti Rome is part of the Toti family’s private collection, who chose to feature well-established Italian artists active in the 1980s.

Additionally, Le Méridien Visconti Rome has partnered with La Galleria Nazionale di Arte Moderna in Rome for the brand’s signature Unlock Art™ program, which provides guests with complimentary access to the museum by simply presenting their room key card and the guest pass found in-room. Founded in 1883, the museum is dedicated to modern and contemporary art and features one of the greatest collections in Italy with more than three thousand works, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, and engravings.

Rooms at Le Méridien Visconti Rome start from €200 per room per night. For more information, please visit: www.lemeridien.com/rome.

The following is a press release from Marriott International:

Autograph Collection Hotels, part of Marriott International has announced The Blackstone will join the brand’s diverse and distinguished portfolio of over 100 independent hotels around the world. A hallmark of hospitality and history in the Windy City, the hotel shares the brand’s values of vision, design and craft and its exactly like nothing else mantra.

“The Blackstone has found its home as part of Autograph Collection Hotels given its rich history, exceptional design and iconic reputation,” said Julius Robinson, Vice President and Global Brand Lead, Autograph Collection Hotels. “Our one-of-a-kind hotels are known for providing differentiated, standout guest experiences, and we are thrilled to welcome global travelers and Chicago locals alike to this latest addition to our dynamic portfolio.”

Following the hotel’s large scale architectural restoration of $139 million in 2008, this multi-million dollar renovation, led by Chicago-based firm The Gettys Group, refreshes the original work of renowned Chicago architectural firm Marshall and Fox, highlighting its early twenty-first century grandeur and craftsmanship while incorporating state-of-the-art technology and modern amenities. A Chicago landmark on the city’s Cultural Mile along Michigan Avenue, the hotel’s refreshed interior design carries through to the hotel’s 335 guestrooms and suites, which feature marble accents, plush bedding and dynamic textiles. Upgraded accommodations up the ante with unobstructed views of Grant Park and Lake Michigan spanning from Navy Pier to Soldier Field.

“The Blackstone has long been the cornerstone of hospitality in Chicago,” says Kim Corrigan, General Manager of The Blackstone. “The opportunity to join Autograph Collection Hotels amplifies this same distinctly hospitable and cultural spirit coupled with the unique design elements of our architecturally-stunning property.”

The creative spirit of The Blackstone is brought to life through uniquely-curated art pieces by more than 1,600 local artists placed throughout the hotel, including in the Art Hall, guest rooms and public spaces, as well as woven throughout various guest touchpoints including the bespoke room keys, in-room amenities, and more.

A NOTABLE AND NOTORIOUS HISTORY IN THE HEART OF CHICAGO
Living up to its distinction as the “Hotel of Presidents” for over 100 years, The Blackstone has hosted U.S. presidents and foreign dignitaries, scandalous political and mob exchanges, a star-studded array of actors, and more than a dozen movie productions. In 1920, The hotel became known for the Smoke Filled Suite following the Republican party leaders’ secret meeting to nominate Warren G. Harding as their candidate for president. Additionally, the hotel’s Suite of Presidents saw the likes of President Dwight Eisenhower watching his nomination for president from the room in 1952, and President John F. Kennedy preparing for D.C. negotiations on the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. In turn, The Blackstone also became known as the location of Chicago gangster Al Capone’s barbershop, nestled below street level in a “barbershop” lounge that still remains today.

The hotel honors these illustrious and notorious tales through “Back in the Day” Turn Down & Other Stories available in each room, encouraging guests to create their own history while staying at The Blackstone Hotel.

ELEVATED DINING AT THE BLACKSTONE
The Blackstone Hotel’s culinary programming culminates at Mercat a la Planxa, which fuses age-old flavors from Spain’s Catalan region with a signature twist, resulting in an inspired menu of tapas, market-fresh seafood, and distinctive steaks along with Cava, sangria, and wine. Having recently undergone its own refreshing restoration, the sultry Mercat a la Planxa and Mercat Lower Lounge, off Michigan Avenue, is open nightly for cocktails and tapas. Come nightfall at The Blackstone Hotel, the newly-transformed lobby becomes a social hub for hotel guests and local tastemakers alike to gather and enjoy live local music, cultural programming and drinks from Timothy’s Hutch. A new addition following the hotel’s renovation, Timothy’s Hutch features unique cocktail programming that takes guests through the past, present, and future of The Blackstone.

The following is a press release from Marriott International:

W Barcelona, an iconic flagship of W Hotels Worldwide, part of Marriott International (NASDAQ: MAR), today unveiled a multi-million Euro transformation of all 473 guest rooms and suites, along with the addition of Europe’s first W Sound Suite (a music studio and writers room, now available at four W Hotels around the world).  The award-winning in-house design team at W Hotels partnered with London-based design studio Bowler James Brindley to reimagine the hotel, inspired by the 24/7 energy and privileged location on the shores of the buzzing Barceloneta.

W Barcelona has been known for its innovative design since it first opened its doors in 2009,” said Anthony Ingham, Global Brand Leader, W Hotels Worldwide. “The completion of this multi-million Euro makeover ensures this beachside escape will continue to lead the market with its forward-thinking decor and unrivaled guest experience.”

Since the hotel’s inception it has become one of the most distinctive landmarks along the Barcelona coast. Famed for its iconic sail-shape and unprecedented sea views, W Barcelona continues to disrupt and redefine the Barcelona hospitality scene.  Regularly hosting fashion events, product launches and high profile guests, the hotel has made a bold impression on both locals and international jetsetters alike.

City and Sea Converge

The new room design celebrates both the city and the sea, embracing the unique views afforded by the hotel’s guest rooms. The color palette is derived from the blue hues of the sea, with pops of white, teal and rose gold to accentuate the light and complement the views from the floor-to-ceiling windows. The notion of underwater camouflage is displayed in the room’s carpet, which is a playful interpretation of the sea bed seen through the waters of the Mediterranean.

In a nod to Barcelona’s celebrated culinary scene, the modular furniture in the sitting area reflects Spanish tapas culture – chic, small tables and chairs with pendant lighting. The guest room wall reflects the city’s grid with an innovative lighting structure that transforms the mood from day to night. The new rooms also feature signature accent pillows showcasing modern images of iconic characters from Barcelona’s history including Gaudí, Dalí and St. Eulalia.

All guest rooms also feature a range of new in-room services including Nespresso coffee machines, tea making facilities, 49-inch flat-screen televisions and Bose blue-tooth sound systems. Signature W amenities are still available to all guests including the Bliss® Spa sinkside six bath products; the signature W Hotels Bed; access to high-speed WiFi; and the brand’s signature Whatever/Whenever service, which provides guests whatever they want, whenever they want it.

Eat. Sleep. Record. Repeat.

Following successful launches at W Bali, W Seattle and W Hollywood, W Barcelona lives up to the city’s reputation as one of the most innovative music capitals by opening Europe’s first W Sound Suite.   In partnership with Coca-Cola, this private music studio and writer’s room enables professional recording artists, studio musicians, producers and hotel guests alike, to record in style while on the road. The main mixing room of the W Sound Suite at W Barcelona features a private vocal booth and a lounge big enough for artists and their entourage. W Barcelona will offer private master classes lead by W Barcelona’s Music Curator, exclusive recording sessions and an original space for creative brainstorming sessions for musicians and hotel guests alike.

W Sound Suites are in part the brainchild of the W brand’s North American Music Director, DJ White Shadow, the Chicago-based producer best known for his work with Lady Gaga.  The W Sound Suite at W Barcelona is equipped with the latest in studio technology and offers professional specifications in a stylish, comfortable and sound-proof space. To outfit the space, W Hotels partnered with industry leader, Native Instruments, who provided the latest generation of the world’s leading production suite (Komplete 11), a state-of-the-art control keyboard (Komplete Kontrol S-Series), the cutting-edge groove production system used by hip-hop producers around the globe (Maschine) and an all-in-one DJ system (Traktor Kontrol S8), among other items. W Hotels also worked with world-renowned audio company, Shure, to provide new SHR440 headphones, X2u microphones, KSM32/SL microphone condensers and BETA®181 microphone for the ultimate recording experience.

Barcelona is an epic city known for its nightlife, culture, and most of all- music,” said DJ White Shadow, North American Music Director, W Hotels Worldwide.  “The latest W Sound Suite at W Barcelona will be the perfect place for international artists to record while on the road.  And for hotel guests that have always dreamt of the spotlight, they can book it too!”

To celebrate the launch of the newest W Sound Suite, W Barcelona will host a new content series in collaboration with local record labels and upcoming artists compiled and selected by PIEM, Music Curator at W Barcelona. The first event will feature TheGround– famed Berlin-based electronic music duo composed of Florian Kruse and Hendrik Burkhard. The celebrated producers will present their unreleased EP in an intimate in-studio performance.

Celebrating In Style

In celebration of the hotel’s striking new room design, W Barcelona has partnered with internationally renowned artist and muralist Ricardo Cavolo to create a limited-edition footwear collection in collaboration with Muroexe, a Spanish urban shoe brand.

Inspiration for the Ricardo Cavolo x W Barcelona sneaker collection is easily found in the hotel’s stunning location on the shores of the Mediterranean, with design elements such as waves, palm trees, the sun and the color blue incorporated throughout. These unique features are accentuated by Cavolo’s trademarks – fire and hearts – for a lighthearted spin on footwear.  The sneakers are available for purchase for 150 Euro at W-Barcelona.com/RCxW.

The following is a press release from Courtyard New York Manhattan/SoHo:

When the 120-room Courtyard New York Manhattan/SoHo opened in the Hudson Square area on Varick Street in 2010, it was a sleek, modern addition to a unique neighborhood known since the 1930s for its spacious lofts and printing houses.

Today, the area is home to designers, marketing and tech companies, trendy restaurants and shops — and now the completely reimagined SoHo hotel. The Greenwich Village hotel adopted a “120 rooms in 35 days” mantra to complete a $2 million remodel that included 119 rooms and one suite plus all public areas and the lobby-level Table 181 lounge. In a little over a month, taking three to four floors at a time, the renovation was completed quickly — which meant little inconvenience to guests who are now treated to a brand-new look with even more comfort.

Rooms at the boutique-style SoHo hotel feature custom-fitted furnishings in muted red and black colors and abstract touches, bringing in the feeling of the neighborhood. New wallcoverings, curtains, lamps and mattresses give the accommodations a fresh look. Each room has a refrigerator, coffee station, safe and complimentary Wi-Fi. On floors 14-20, city view rooms overlook either the Hudson River or Manhattan skyline, with the Empire State Building as a centerpiece. A unique design feature in several rooms is a glass wall that extends several inches beyond the surface of the building, giving guests a surreal glass niche in which to gaze out over the city.
