2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards: Zachary Levi named as host

Hot on the heels of the worldwide box office hit “Shazam!,” star Zachary Levi will host the “2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards” on Monday, June 17th at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.

Levi currently can be seen toplining David F. Sandberg’s blockbuster superhero feature film “Shazam!” from Warner Bros. Pictures/New Line Cinema.

No stranger to superhero films, Levi has also appeared as Fandral in “Thor: The Dark World.” He was previously best known for starring as Chuck Bartowski in the popular television series “Chuck” and, most recently, as Benjamin in the Emmy(R) and Golden Globe(R) award-winning series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” for which he took home a SAG(R) Award for “Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series.”

Levi follows in the footsteps of previous MTV Movie & TV Hosts, including Tiffany Haddish, Adam Devine, Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, Amy Schumer, Conan O’Brien, Rebel Wilson, Russell Brand, Jason Sudeikis and Andy Samberg, among others.

The 2019 categories and nominees will be announced in the coming weeks.

2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards: Mustard, Nick Jonas, Chloe x Halle to perform; presenters announced

Platinum producer Mustard and Grammy- and Golden Globe- nominated artist Nick Jonas will perform the new single “Anywhere” for the first time in its entirety at the 2018 “MTV Movie & TV Awards.” The world premiere of the video debuted yesterday on MTV.  Additionally, Chloe x Halle are set to take the stage for a medley of “The Kids Are Alright” and “Warrior” from their debut album.

The network also announced “Black Panther’s” Michael B. Jordan; Seth Rogen and Kristen Bell, from the new comedy “Like Father;” Mila Kunis of “The Spy Who Dumped Me;” Zendaya and Gina Rodriguez in the upcoming animated film “Smallfoot” and artist and actor, Common are confirmed to present.  Additional names will be announced at a later date.

As previously announced, Chris Pratt will receive this year’s “Generation Award” and Lena Waithe will be honored with the “Trailblazer Award.”  Hosted by Tiffany Haddish, this year’s show will air on Monday, June 18 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT from the Barker Hangar in Los Angeles.

Mustard (Dijon McFarlane) is a multi-platinum producer and DJ from South Central LA whose 2010 rise is attributed to a simple, hypnotic sound. Known for hits including Tyga’s “Rack City,” 2 Chainz’s “I’m Different,” and Young Jeezy’s “R.I.P,” he was also behind a quartet of singles that hit the Top Ten of Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart, including YG’s “My N*gga,” Ty Dolla $ign’s “Paranoid,” Kid Ink’s “Show Me,” and Trey Songz’s “Na Na.”  His debut album, 10 Summers (Roc Nation) arrived in 2014 and his follow up album, which featured appearances by YG, Ty Dolla $ign, Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, Nicki Minaj, Young Thug, Quavo, John Legend and many more, dropped in 2016.  In 2016 he also produced Rihanna’s longest-charting and five-time platinum hit, “Needed Me.” A year later he returned with The Ghetto, which included the single “Is It Mine,” featuring RJMrLA.  He can be found performing everywhere from Coachella to EDC.

Nick Jonas, the multi-platinum, Grammy and Golden Globe nominated recording artist, actor, and award winning songwriter, released his self-titled debut album in November 2014. Their rendition of Beyoncé’s ballad “Pretty Hurts” garnered over 15 million views and ultimately led to a recording deal with Beyoncé’s, Parkwood Entertainment. Since then, Chloe x Halle served as the opening act for “The Formation World Tour” and appeared in the now-legendary visual masterpiece for Lemonade. In 2016, they also lent their voices to the song, “This is for My Girls” (alongside Kelly Rowland, Zendaya and Janelle Monáe, among them) in support of Let Girls Learn, an education-focused initiative launched by former President Obama and First Lady, Michelle Obama.  Their on-screen credits include their roles as Jazz and Sky on Freeform’s hit comedy

MTV revamps movie award show to add TV categories, launches fan fest for the show

MTV Movie & TV Awards

MTV has changed its annual movie award show by adding TV categories. The inaugural MTV Movie & TV Awards will be televised live on MTV from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on May 7, 2017, at 8 p.m. ET. The show’s host, nominations, performers and presenters will be announced at a later date.

According to a press release from MTV, in the lead-up to the live show on May 7, fans will be treated to the inaugural Movie & Television Festival.  Live musical acts, special guests and food will transform the area outside of the Shrine Auditorium into a massive, daylong party.  The afternoon will culminate with attendees getting a front-row spot for viewing celebrity red-carpet arrivals for the evening’s main event.  Ticketing details and a full list of performers will be announced at a later date.

Casey Patterson will serve as executive producer, with MTV’s Garrett English for the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards. Melanie Block is executive in charge of production. Wendy Plaut serves as co-executive producer and executive in charge of celebrity talent.  Amani Duncan is executive in charge of music talent.

The MTV Movie Awards began in 1992. The awards are voted for by fans in MTV’s primarily youth-oriented target audience. The show has tended to focus on movies that appeal to teens and people in their 20s. The event also features musical performances from current hitmaking artists.
