Based on author David Grann’s non-fiction bestseller, “The Lost City of Z” tells the incredible true story of British explorer Percy Fawcett (played by Charlie Hunnam), who journeys into the Amazon at the dawn of the 20th century and discovers evidence of a previously unknown, advanced civilization that may have once inhabited the region. Despite being ridiculed by the scientific establishment who regard indigenous populations as “savages,” the determined Fawcett—supported by his devoted wife Nina (played by Sienna Miller), son Jack (played by Tom Holland) and aide-de-camp Corporal Henry Costin (played by Robert Pattinson)—returns time and again to his beloved jungle in an attempt to prove his case, culminating in his mysterious disappearance in 1925. An epically scaled tale of courage and passion, told in writer/director James Gray’s classic filmmaking style, “The Lost City of Z” is a stirring tribute to the exploratory spirit and a conflicted adventurer driven to the verge of obsession. “The Lost City of Z” had its world premiere at the 2016 New York Film Festival, where Gray, Pattinson, Miller, Holland and co-star Angus Macfadyen gathered for a Q&A after a press screening.
Investigation Discovery (ID) has announced that its second annual IDCon, an event for ID fans, will take place May 20, 2017, at the Altman Building in New York City. The theme of the event is “Notorious Headlines.” Unlike the first IDCon, which was free to all attendees, the 2017 edition will be selling tickets at $40 each. Tickets go on sale at EventBrite on April 7, 2017, at 9 a.m. Eastern Time. According to ID, all proceeds for IDCon will be donated to New York’s Silver Shield Foundation, an organization which provides educational support to families of firefighters and police officers killed in the line of duty.
ID show hosts Paula Zahn, Chris Hansen, Joe Kenda and Garry McFadden (who were all at IDCon in 2016) will return to the event in 2017. ID hosts Maria Elena Salinas, Rod Demery and members of the “People Magazine Investigates” team will make their first appearances at IDCon this year. More talent appearances are expected to be announced.
In a statement, Investigation Discovery, American Heroes Channel and Destination America group president Henry Schleiff commented: “IDCon was created as a thank you to our passionate fans, and our inaugural IDCon last year just ‘killed,’ selling out in less than eight hours with more than 7,000 people on the waitlist! Our self-proclaimed ‘ID Addicts’ have now made ID the #1 network for women, so we are particularly excited this year to deliver these superfans this unique opportunity to go behind the scenes and meet their favorite ID stars.”
The event, which is expected to sell out quickly to the approximate maximum of 300 people, will once again feature panel discussions, immersive experiences and meet-and-greet opportunities with ID stars. On April 10, 2017, ID will also launch a sweepstakes for a lucky fan to win a trip for two to IDCon.
The following is an excerpt from a White Company press release:
The White Company is delighted to announce the opening of its first store in New York City this summer. The first international flagship will sit at 155 Fifth Avenue in the Flatiron area of the city and will stock a curated selection of lifestyle, homeware and fashion products across 3,000 square feet. The White Company’s expansion into the States follows its acquisition of a US audience, having launched its US e-commerce site in 2014 –a main contributor to a record growth year for the company, with operating profits of $21.4 million.
Founded by Chrissie Rucker, MBE over 22 years ago, The White Company has become one of the U.K.’s fastest growing multi-channel retailers, topping $229 million turnover, over 1 million customers and more than 50 stores across the U.K. The brand is now synonymous with transforming houses into homes, creating impeccably stylish, beautifully designed products—principally in white – with British town and country heritage at its core. The collection encompasses home accessories, such as candles, tableware and vases; beauty—including a recently launched skincare collection—fragrance, bath and body, alongside an impressive clothing range that includes the softest cashmere sweaters, luxurious loungewear and stylish dresses and accessories. A selection of The Little White Company products featuring good quality, affordable white baby clothes and nursery equipment will also be housed in the new store. In less than half a decade, The White Company has become recognized as the lifestyle destination for homeware, clothing and childrenswear.
Rucker is renowned and celebrated as a leading female entrepreneur, having received an MBE from Her Majesty the Queen in 2010 for outstanding service to the community through her work with The White Company. Her other accolades include: Spears Entrepreneur of The Year Award, The Sunday Times Fast Track 100 league table, Profit Track 100 Best Brand Award and Private Businesswoman of the Year from the Financial Times in 2012. Unable to find well-designed quality bed linen, Rucker was inspired to create an assortment of essentials for the linen cupboard, including pillowcases, fitted sheets and luxury towels; all in what has now become the iconic “white” of the brand. Starting as a 12-page mail order brochure, The White Company has become one of the U.K.’s fastest-growing multi-channel retailers and is now considered one of the most successful high-end British brands with a reputation of selling a lifestyle, not simply a product.
The Waldorf Astoria in New York City closed for renovations on February 28, 2017. Most of the hotel (which will re-open in 2019 or 2020) is being converted into condominium apartments.
The following is an excerpt from a Waldorf Astoria press release giving an update on the renovations:
The Waldorf Astoria New York has released proposed plans for the meticulous restoration and revitalization of the historic property’s landmarked exterior and interior spaces. The plans, which were prepared by a world-class design team including leading architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and renowned interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon (PYR), were submitted today for public review by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. The plans restore all landmarked spaces, ensuring the historic public and event spaces will be accessible for generations of New Yorkers and visitors alike.
This restoration is among the most complex and intensive landmark preservation efforts in New York City history. If approved, it will revive key elements of the Art Deco masterpiece that have been altered over time, providing an experience that reflects the hotel’s original intent while delivering an enhanced visitor experience by modernizing the building’s functional capability to a 21st Century standard of luxury.
The proposed restoration plan is part of a major renovation that will set a new standard for service in New York when The Waldorf re-opens in two to three years. The hotel will continue to be operated by Hilton as part of a 100-year management agreement.
SOM will lead the architectural design team for the project. The New York-based architecture firm has overseen restoration and adaptive reuse projects for several New York City landmarks, including Moynihan Train Hall, the General Electric Building headquarters and Lever House.
PYR will lead the interior design of the hotel, including its public and guest room areas. Since its founding in 1979, the firm has focused exclusively on five-star luxury hotels, including the forthcoming Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills scheduled to open June 2017, fine dining restaurants and private residences. PYR’s interior design has helped preserve the spirit and design heritage of some of the world’s most iconic hotels.
In addition to historic public and event spaces restored to their original intent, the Waldorf will feature new guest rooms, suites and condominiums when it reopens.
Originally opened in 1893 on the present site of the Empire State Building, the Waldorf Astoria New York opened at its current Park Avenue location in 1931, was designated an official New York City landmark in 1993 and had its most important interior spaces landmarked in 2017.

Cat expert Jackson Galaxy, the host of Animal Planet’s “My Cat From Hell,” will be the keynote speaker and will do a meet-and-greet. Celebrity cat Lil Bub and her owner Mike Bridavsky will also be in attendance. Guest speakers/panelists are well-known cat enthusiasts involved in cat rescuing, spaying/neutering and adoptions, including:
Hannah Shaw, also known as The Kitten Lady, a Washington, D.C.-based kitten rescuer/foster parent who has become a star on social media

Although this is an event for cat enthusiasts, the only cats allowed at the event are those that have been pre-approved for adoptions or guest appearances.
