2017 Radio Disney Awards: Fifth Harmony, Kelsea Ballerini, Justin Bieber among winners

With two awards each, Fifth Harmony, Kelsea Ballerini and Justin Bieber were the top winners of the Fifth Annual Radio Disney Music Awards (RDMA), which took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles om April 29, 2017. The show, which could be seen on  Disney Channel and multiple Disney-branded digital platforms, was hosted by Kelsea Ballerini, Sofia Carson, Jordan Fisher, Alex Aiono and Jenna Ortega. Performances included those by Alessia Cara, Hailee Steinfeld, Ballerini, Noah Cyrus, Julia Michaels, Carson, Sabrina Carpenter, Auli’i Cravalho, Fitz and The Tantrums, Erin Bowman, Grace VanderWaal, Train, Lindsey Stirling, Fisher and Tally.

Highlights of the show included:

    • Jamie Lynn Spears joined recording artists Steinfeld, Ballerini and Carson onstage during a tribute performance to her sister, Britney Spears, recipient of the first-ever RDMA Icon Award.
    • The first “Moana” musical collaboration by Fisher, Cara, Auli’i Cravalho and Tally.
    • Nick Jonas received the RDMA Hero Award for his philanthropic work with Beyond Type 1 (diabetes).The show opened with the world premiere of “Ways to Be Wicked” from “Descendants 2” and a special appearance by the stars of the movie together on stage — Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Cameron Boyce and Booboo Stewart.With over 283 million votes from around the world, the 2017 RDMA tallied its highest numbers yet across six polling platforms: the Radio Disney app, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google One Box and, for the first time, the popular social platform Musically was included, allowing users to vote for the category “Stuck In Our Heads – Best Song To Lip Sync To.”During the “Disney Channel Presents the 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards,” viewers were invited to join a Live viewing party on the Radio Disney app and Radio Disney Facebook during the telecast on both coasts, hosted by Radio Disney talent and social media stars. The 2017 RDMA was sponsored by American Girl, Aquabeads, Band-Aid Brand, Chrysler, Comcast’s Xfinity, Flavor Blasted Goldfish Crackers, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Shapes and the Walt Disney Studios.
