2018 E! People’s Choice Awards: Victoria Beckham gets Fashion Icon Award; show will be televised on all NBCUniversal cable networks

E! announced that Victoria Beckham will receive the first ever “The E! People’s Choice Awards” Fashion Icon Award. The creative director of the Victoria Beckham brand and internationally recognized style icon will receive the award honoring her for her global influence on the fashion industry. “The E! People’s Choice Awards” will be broadcast live from Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on Sunday, November 11 from 9:00-11:00pm ET/PT. “The E! People’s Choice Awards,” celebrating movies, television, music and pop culture, will broadcast live across the cable networks of NBCUniversal, including Bravo, E!, SYFY, Universo and USA Network, and will air in 161 countries.

2018 British Independent Film Awards: ‘The Favourite’ has the most nominations

“The Favourite” leads the list of nominations for the 2018 British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs) announced this morning by British actors Ellie Bamber and Arinzé Kene at the Everyman Cinema, King’s Cross. Yorgos Lanthimos’s black comedy about the 18th century court of Queen Anne is recognized for Best British Independent Film, Best Director sponsored by Broadsword Event House and Best Screenplay sponsored by BBC Films. Olivia Colman is nominated for Best Actress sponsored by MAC, with her co-stars in the female-led ensemble, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, competing in the Best Supporting Actress category, Weisz also receives a Best Actress nomination for Sapphic drama “Disobedience.” “The Favourite” also sweeps the technical categories, newly introduced for the 2017 awards, with nominations for seven of the nine awards, including Best Production Design, Best Cinematography supported by Blackmagic Design, Best Make-up & Hair Design and Best Costume Design.

The Best British Independent Film nominees are “American Animals” (11 nominations), “Beast” (10 nominations), “Disobedience” (5 nominations), “The Favourite” (13 nominations) and “You Were Never Really Here” (8 nominations). The nominations list demonstrates a record year for female representation, with over 40% of the individual nominations recognizing women in the industry across directing, writing, producing, performance and craft. Female nominees make up over 50% of the talent nominated for Best British Independent Film and dominate both Most Promising Newcomer and Breakthrough Producer supported by Creativity Media, with four out of five nominations for each award. Over 140 British films were submitted for consideration and 37 different British feature films have been nominated across the BIFA categories.

The broad recognition for “American Animals” and “You Were Never Really Here” marks the return of previous award winners, writer-directors Lynne Ramsay and Bart Layton. Layton won Best Debut Director for his documentary “The Imposter” in 2012 and his true-crime heist drama “American Animals” secures him nominations for Best Director and for both Best Screenplay and Debut Screenwriter. The film sees Evan Peters and Barry Keoghan compete in the Best Supporting Actor category, marking their first BIFA nominations. Ramsay continues her long association with BIFA, with her third nomination for Best Screenplay and her second for Best Director, following past recognition for “Ratcatcher,” “Morvern Callar” and “We Need To Talk About Kevin.” Joaquin Phoenix secures his second BIFA Best Actor nomination for his role as a tortured hitman in the psychological noir thriller, with Jonny Greenwood and Tom Townend being recognized for Best Music sponsored by Universal Music Publishing Group and Best Cinematography respectively.

Following a breakout year for British directorial debuts at the 2017 awards, this year’s nominations list continues the trend with acclaim for Michael Pearce’s romantic thriller “Beast” and Daniel Kokotajlo’s “Apostasy,” a sensitive drama set within the Jehovah’s Witness community. In addition to its Best British Independent Film nomination, “Beast” receives nods for Pearce in all directing and screenwriting categories: Best Director, Best Screenplay, Debut Screenwriter and The Douglas Hickox Award for Best Debut Director sponsored by Kodak & Pinewood. Lead Jessie Buckley receives nominations for both Best Actress and Most Promising Newcomer, alongside “Apostasy’s” Molly Wright who also receives nods in both categories. Joe Cole (“A Prayer Before Dawn”), Rupert Everett (“The Happy Prince”) and Charlie Plummer (“Lean on Pete”) all feature in the Best Actor category as first time BIFA nominees, alongside Steve Coogan (“Stan & Ollie”) and Joaquin Phoenix. Gemma Arterton (“The Escape”) and Maxine Peake (“Funny Cow”) round out the Best Actress category, with Peake making her debut on the list.

The Richard Harris Award and The Variety Award are to be announced in November. The Richard Harris Award, introduced in 2002 in honor of Richard Harris, recognizes outstanding contribution to British Film by an actor. Previous winners have been Daniel Day Lewis, Julie Walters, John Hurt, Emma Thompson and Vanessa Redgrave in 2017. The Variety Award recognizes a director, actor, writer or producer who has made a global impact and helped focus the international spotlight on the UK. Past winners include Kate Winslet, Richard Curtis, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sir Michael Caine and Dame Helen Mirren.

Winners will be announced at the British Independent Film Award Ceremony on Sunday 2 December at Old Billingsgate.

UPDATE: Judi Dench will receive the 2018 Richard Harris Award. Felicity Jones will receive the 2018 Variety Award.

2018 Soul Train Awards: Bruno Mars, H.E.R. are the leading nominees

BET Networks today announced the nominees for the 2018 Soul Train Awards across 12 different categories. The annual celebration will recognize the best in Soul, R&B and Hip-Hop from legends to the next generation. Filming on November 17 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, BET presents: 2018 Soul Train Awards will air on BET and BET HER on November 25 at 8PM ET.

The fourth annual Lady of Soul Award will be presented to multi-platinum Grammy Award-winning artist, songwriter, and record producer Faith Evans. 2018 Hollywood Film Awards: ‘Believer’ gets documentary prize; Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds will perform on show

Dick Clark Productions announced today that the 22nd Annual Hollywood Film Awards will bestow the Hollywood Documentary Award to Live Nation Productions’ “Believer,” the story of Imagine Dragons’ frontman Dan Reynolds as he comes to a crossroads when he witnesses fellow members of the Mormon church spurned due to their sexual orientation. Reynolds, who also served as Executive Producer on the film, will be accepting the award at the ceremony, which will take place on Sunday, November 4 at The Beverly Hilton. As part of the ceremony, Reynolds, producer Tim Edgar and award-winning composer Hans Zimmer will also take the HFA stage to deliver a performance of “Believer’s” empowering track “Skipping Stones.” The song is one of two original tracks that are featured in the documentary. Reynolds teamed up with the film-score legend for this heartfelt track to promote change, love and acceptance of the LGBTQ community within the Mormon Church.

ABOUT THE HONOREES
“Believer” is a film based on Imagine Dragons’ frontman Dan Reynolds who comes to a crossroads when he witnesses fellow members of the Mormon church spurned due to their sexual orientation. Since 2008, teen suicide rates in Utah have skyrocketed, which many people attribute to the Mormon church’s official stance regarding same-sex relationships. Director Don Argott follows Dan and openly gay former Mormon Tyler Glenn, lead singer of Neon Trees, as they decide to create LoveLoud, a music and spoken-word festival designed to spark dialogue between the church and members of the LGBTQ community.

Dan Reynolds, a third generation Las Vegas native, is lead singer for the Grammy winning band Imagine Dragons. Born to a family of nine children, Dan grew up writing and recording music before beginning his studies at Brigham Young University and later UNLV. Dan left his schooling to form Imagine Dragons, which had its start making ends meet playing casinos and bars in Las Vegas before signing to KidinaKorner/Interscope Records. The band has since sold over 12 million albums and 35 million singles worldwide. In 2016, Dan formed Interscope imprint Night Street Records, whose first signing K.Flay was nominated for two 2018 Grammy Awards. Having publicly expressed his concern for the rising suicide rate in LGBTQ+ youth, Dan founded the LOVELOUD Foundation in 2017 to bring awareness to the growing crisis. Its mission is to bring communities together by igniting the vital conversation of what it means to unconditionally love, understand, accept, and support our LGBTQ+ family and friends. Dan also currently serves as a board member for The Tyler Robinson Foundation, a charity he co-founded which helps support pediatric cancer families in financial distress.

Dierks Bentley with Brothers Osborne, Florida Georgia Line with Bebe Rexha, Kacey Musgraves, Pistol Annies and Thomas Rhett have been added to the lineup of performers for the 52nd Annual CMA Awards, hosted for the 11th consecutive year by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood. Country Music’s Biggest Night will air live from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, November 14 (8:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on the ABC Television Network.

Previously announced performers for the CMA Awards include Kelsea Ballerini, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Dan + Shay, Old Dominion, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban. Additional performers and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks.

Bentley is a three-time CMA Awards winner and 24-time career nominee. He returns this year with his seventh nod for Male Vocalist of the Year and sixth nod for Album of the Year.

Brothers Osborne, three-time CMA Awards winners and seven-time career nominees, are the reigning Vocal Duo of the Year winners, bringing home the award consecutively in 2016 and 2017. They return this year with their fourth consecutive Vocal Duo of the Year nomination.

Florida Georgia Line are six-time Vocal Duo of the Year nominees consecutively from 2013-2018 and three-time winners in the category (2013-2015). They have 11 career CMA Awards nominations with four total wins.

Musgraves is a 15-time CMA Awards nominee and two-time winner. She returns this year with her fifth Female Vocalist of the Year nomination and third Album of the Year nomination.

Pistol Annies (Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley) are two-time CMA Awards nominees, receiving nods in 2013 for Music Video of the Year and Musical Event of the Year.

Rexha is a first-time CMA Awards nominee, receiving two nods this year in the Musical Event of the Year and Single of the Year categories for her crossover collaboration “Meant to Be” with Florida Georgia Line.

Thomas Rhett is a 10-time CMA Awards nominee receiving three nods this year. He returns with his second consecutive nominations in the Male Vocalist of the Year and Music Video of the Year categories, and first nomination for Album of the Year. His first CMA Awards win was in 2016 for Single of the Year.

The 52nd Annual CMA Awards is a production of the Country Music Association. Robert Deaton is the executive producer. Gary Halvorson is the director, and David Wild is the head writer.

Currie enjoyed acting while studying at Emerson College in Boston, and his credits include Con Air; McFarland, USA; Stuck on You; The Bold and the Beautiful; Invincible; Fever Pitch; and Armageddon. In addition to his co-writing and producing on Green Book, Currie also plays Maryland State Trooper Hayes in a memorable sequence in the film.

2019 iHeartRadio Podcast Awards: nominees, date, location, hosts, presenters announced

iHeartMedia, the No. 1 commercial podcast publisher globally with over 20,000 podcasts available on its platform, today announced the first annual live iHeartRadio Podcast Awards to be held at the iHeartRadio Theater Los Angeles on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 8 p.m. PT. The first-ever major live awards event voted by the listeners to honor the very best in podcasting will span 22 categories and will celebrate the incredible talent and wide variety of leaders across the booming podcasting industry.

Hosted by Holly Frey, co-host of “Stuff You Missed in History Class,” one of today’s biggest history podcasts; Charlamagne Tha God, nationally-syndicated on-air host and co-host of “The Brilliant Idiots” and “The Breakfast Club” podcasts; and Bobby Bones, top Country radio host, multiplatform personality and host of the leading Country music focused podcast “Bobbycast” and creator of the Nashville Podcast Network, the event will run 90 minutes and will include a live audience with a live stream hosted by on-air and TV personality Mario Lopez. Presenters include Payne Lindsay (“Up & Vanished”), Aaron Mahnke (“Lore”), and Jake Brennan (“Disgraceland”), with more to be announced.

Since the introduction of podcasts more than a decade ago, the entertainment industry has seen a steady increase in listenership and popularity across the medium, with over 44 percent of Americans having listened to a podcast. Today, podcasts have twice the reach than all of satellite radio and the iHeartRadio Podcast Network has seen a nearly 200 percent year-over-year growth in podcast listening in the past year.

2018 MTV Europe Music Awards: Janet Jackson to receive Global Icon award; Nicki Minaj, Halsey, Rosalia among performers

MTV today revealed a set of badass females leading the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards lineup: Global superstar Nicki Minaj, multi-platinum superstar Halsey and Spanish sensation Rosalía are the first performer names announced for the global music celebration airing live from Bilbao Exhibition Centre, Spain on Sunday, November 4 at 9:00pm CET.

MTV also named its first presenters for the big night: actors Michael Peña and Diego Luna from the new upcoming Netflix crime drama “Narcos: Mexico.”

Minaj returns to the EMA stage with two nominations this year, Best Hip Hop and Best Look, after hosting the 2014 MTV EMAs in Glasgow. This marks Halsey’s and Rosalía’s EMA stage debut, with Rosalía securing a nod for Best Spanish Act.

The undisputed reigning queen of hip hop, Nicki Minaj released her platinum selling highly anticipated fourth studio album “Queen” in August, her first album in four years, including hit singles “Barbie Tingz”, “Chun-Li” and “Bed” featuring Ariana Grande.

Halsey’s EMA performance announcement follows the release of her new single “Without Me,” Halsey’s first new solo music since 2017’s Billboard 200 number 1, platinum album “Hopeless Fountain Kingdom.” Halsey’s world tour recently wrapped up with two sold-out shows in London.”

Rosalía’s EMA set comes on the heels of the Latin Grammy-nominated artist’s new album “El Mal Querer.” The video for her first single off the album, “Malamente,” clocked 20 million views in just three months.

MTV will also honor Janet Jackson with its 2018 Global Icon award at the 2018 MTV EMAs, one of the biggest global music events of the year that celebrates the hottest artists from around the world.

Jackson will perform a medley of her greatest hits including her recent smash single “Made for Now.”

Dick Clark Productions announced today several spectacular additions to the list of honorees at the 22nd Annual Hollywood Film Awards. Glenn Close will receive the “Hollywood Actress Award” for her stunning performance in Sony Pictures Classic’s “The Wife,” while Hugh Jackman will be recognized for his powerful turn in Sony Pictures’ “The Front Runner.” Damien Chazelle will receive the “Hollywood Director Award” for his work on Universal Pictures’ “First Man.”

They join previously announced honorees Nicole Kidman, who will receive this year’s “Hollywood Career Achievement Award,” Timothée Chalamet and Rachel Weisz, who will receive the “Hollywood Supporting Actor Award” and “Hollywood Supporting Actress Award,” respectively, “Crazy Rich Asians,” which will receive the “Hollywood Breakout Ensemble Award,” Amandla Stenberg, who will receive the “Hollywood Breakout Performance Actress Award,” John David Washington, who will receive the “Hollywood Breakout Performance Actor Award,” Felix Van Groeningen, who will receive the “Hollywood Breakthrough Director Award,” and Yalitza Aparicio, who will receive the “New Hollywood Award.” The 22nd Annual “Hollywood Film Awards” will take place on Sunday, November 4 at The Beverly Hilton.

ABOUT THE HONOREES
A six-time Academy Award nominee, Glenn Close made her feature film debut in George Roy Hill’s The World According to Garp, earning her awards from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the National Board of Review as well as her first Academy Award nomination. She was subsequently Oscar-nominated for “The Big Chill,” “The Natural,” “Fatal Attraction” and Stephen Frears’ “Dangerous Liaisons” (for which she was also a BAFTA Award nominee). Close stars in the title role of Jane Anderson’s film adaptation of Meg Wolitzer’s bestselling novel “The Wife,” with Jonathan Pryce and Christian Slater for Swedish director Björn Runge, which opened earlier this year. Close also stars in the title role of Jane Anderson’s stage play “Mother of the Maid,” which just premiered in New York at the Public Theater. Close received her sixth Academy Award nomination in 2012, along with Golden Globe and SAG nominations, for “Albert Nobbs,” having co-written the screenplay with man Booker Prize-winning author, John Banville. Close was also a producer on the film and composed the lyrics for the Golden Globe and World Soundtrack- nominated song, “Lay Your Head Down.” Glenn Close made her theatre, and Broadway, debut in Harold Prince’s revival of “Love for Love.” Her theater credits include “The Crucifer of Blood,” “The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs” (Obie Award), Barnum (Tony nomination) and Tony Awards for her performances in “The Real Thing” and “Death and the Maiden,” both directed by Mike Nichols, and for her performance in the highly-anticipated revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical “Sunset Boulevard.” Starting in 2007, Close headlined the critically acclaimed legal thriller “Damages” for five seasons. For her riveting portrayal of high-stakes litigator Patty Hewes, Close won two consecutive Emmys as Best Actress in a Drama Series and two subsequent Emmy nominations, along with a Golden Globe Award and three SAG Award nominations. Close’s twelve Golden Globe nominations include a Best Actress win for Andrei Konchalovsky’s adaptation of “The Lion in Winter” (which also earned her a SAG Award). Among the television projects that have brought her twelve Emmy nominations, is an Emmy Award for her performance as Margarethe Cammermeyer in “Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story” (for which she also received a Peabody Award as executive producer). In 2009, Close co-founded the charity Bring Change To Mind, whose mission is to confront the stigma and misunderstanding around mental illness by “starting the conversation.” The idea for the organization came about following Close’s first-hand observation of battles with mental illness within her family.

Hugh Jackman can currently be seen in the Jason Reitman-directed feature film “The Front Runner.” Based on the true story of American Senator Gary Hart’s tumultuous political run for the office of President of the United States in 1988. Jackman is a multi-award-winning actor on stage and screen. He was last seen as P.T. Barnum in the worldwide phenomenon “The Greatest Showman.” He is a co-founder of Laughing Man Coffee and a worldwide Ambassador for Global Citizen, among other philanthropic efforts.

Academy Award® winner Damien Chazelle most recently wrote and directed the musical “La La Land,” which earned fourteen Oscar nominations, winning six awards, including Best Director for Chazelle, who is the youngest director to receive the award. The film also won a record-breaking seven Golden Globes, and was also honored with five BAFTA wins and eleven nominations. His previous film, 2014’s “Whiplash,” received five Academy Award nominations and three wins, including Best Supporting Actor for J.K. Simmons. His 2013 short, based on the “Whiplash” screenplay, won the Short Film Jury Prize at Sundance, and the following year the feature film took home both the Jury and Audience Awards from the festival. Chazelle made his first feature, “Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench,” as an undergraduate student at Harvard University. The film was named one of the Best Films of the Year by The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, LA Weekly, The Village Voice, and others. Upcoming in TV, Chazelle has a musical drama
“The Eddy” for Netflix, and a straight-to-series order for a drama series for Apple which he will direct and executive produce.
