Vito, a confident Pug, was crowned Best in Show on Thanksgiving Day at Philadelphia’s prestigious 23rd National Dog Show Presented by Purina.
Coverage of the show and Vito’s victorious moments were broadcast to a massive holiday audience on NBC following the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Owned by Carolyn Koch of Chapel Hill, N.C., Vito represents the very best in the pug breed. Vito’s registered name is GCGG Andi In Cahoots.
“Compact, features, movement – everything a pug should be,” offered Best in Show judge George Milutinovich of Fresno, Calif., who selected the Pug over a top-rated lineup, including a Welsh Terrier, Giant Schnauzer, Clumber Spaniel, Lhasa Apso, Berger Picard and Ibizan Hound. “I’d never seen him before. Wow. Just wow. Lots of dog in a small package.” Milutinovich continued, “To look at a pug is to put a smile on your face.”
“I was optimistic,” said Vito’s handler, Michael Scott, of Chesapeake City, Md., who is no stranger to the National Dog Show with a previous win in 2008, handling the Pointer, Holly. “I always hope to get a really good look [from the judge].” Scott concluded, “Vito has a beautiful head and expression. Great outline.”
Scott claimed Best of Breed at the AKC National Show in 2023 and won Best of Breed at Westminster with a Toy Group 4th earlier this year. He’s a multi-specialty winner with now 25 Best in Shows at approximately 75 all-breed shows.
Reserve Best in Show (second place) went to a Welsh Terrier named Verde and handler Gabriel Rangel from Rialto, Calif. Winner of the Terrier Group, Verde’s registered name is GCH Ch Studio Be Curious JP Justice Hero.

The Miniature Poodle “Sage” took home the highest title of Best in Show at the 148th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show presented by Purina Pro Plan. Under Judge Rosalind Kramer of High Point, NC, America’s most prestigious dog show came to a close at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
Sage, a 3-year-old female of Houston, TX, officially known as GCHG CH Surrey Sage, is handled by Kaz Hosaka and owned by Cathy Gauche. Sage bested a field of over 2,500 entered dogs among seven group finalists to win the coveted Best in Show title on Tuesday night after two days of Best of Breed, Group, and Best in Show competition.
After bringing Sage to a Best in Show victory, Hosaka announced he is retiring from shows after 45 Westminster Dog Shows. Hosaka last won Best in Show in 2002 with a Miniature Poodle named “Spice.”
The German Shepherd “Mercedes,” officially known as GCHG CH Kaleef’s Mercedes, won Reserve Best in Show with handler, Kent Boyles.
Best in Show was televised live on FS1. The Empire State Building illuminated the New York City skyline in Westminster’s iconic purple and gold to celebrate the 148th annual event.

Stache, a proud and confident Sealyham Terrier, delivered a hometown victory on Thanksgiving Day, winning Best in Show at Philadelphia’s prestigious 22nd National Dog Show Presented by Purina.
Stache’s triumphant moment was broadcast to a massive holiday audience on NBC following the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Margery Good of Cochranville, Penn., a Philadelphia suburb, guided Stache to the title, impressing Best in Show judge Carrie Chase of Martinsburg, W.V.
The #2-ranked Terrier and #12-ranked All-Breed show dog in America, Stache is from a legendary line of dogs that includes his grandfather, Charmin, winner of the World Dog Show, the AKC National Championship and Crufts, the famed Birmingham, England competition where he bested 22,000 dogs in 2008.
“This dog’s condition, breed type and showmanship all come together to produce the epitome of an excellent dog,” said Chase, who selected the Terrier over a top-rated lineup that included a Shih Tzu (Toy Group), Great Dane (Working Group), Chesapeake Bay Retriever (Sporting Group), Dalmatian (Non-Sporting Group), German Shepherd (Herding Group) and Azawahk (Hound Group). “At the end of the day, it’s a dog show and you want them to display all of their great attributes.”
“It’s an exhilarating feeling to win,” said Good, a prominent and popular handler who won the nearby Montgomery County Kennel Club Terrier Show with Stache in October. “Stache deals easily with multiple things happening around him. He’s so well-balanced and he loves to show. I loved seeing him have his celebratory dinner (kibble on the silver-plated trophy tray).” Stache’s registered name is GCHP CH Goodspice Efbe Money Stache.

The 145th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show took place at Lyndhurst Mansion in Tarrytown, New York, on June 12 and June 13, 2021. In the U.S., portions of the event were televised on Fox, FS1 and FS2. The show could also be livestreamed on the Fox Sports app and FoxSports.com. GCHG CH Pequest Wasabi, a 3-year-old male Pekinese, was named Best in Show.
It was the first time that the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show took place Lyndhurst Mansion in Tarrytown, New York. The show’s usual location at New York City’s Madison Square Garden was not available due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event also makred the first time in more than 30 years that the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show named its Best in Show winner live on broadcast TV. The show has been on
Anchoring the weekend’s primetime coverage were MLB, NFL and NASCAR host Chris Myers, Westminster Kennel Club announcer Gail Miller Bisher and judge Don Sturz in the booth. Jenny Taft, moderator of FS1 studio show “Undisputed” and the network’s lead college football reporter, returned as the event’s host. NFL and soccer reporter Sara Walsh interviewed judges and handlers.
FS1 televised group judging on June 12 and June 13, with Fox televising more group judging and the crowining of the Best in Show winner live.
Westminster Weekend began June 12 with the Masters Agility Championship on Fox. Fox Soccer lead play-by-play announcer John Strong called the action, joining analyst and dog trainer Terry Simons and reporter Jennifer Hale.
Strong and Hale also contributed to Fox’s breed judging June 12 on FS2 and June 13 on FS1. Veteran judges Kimberly Meredith and Jason Hoke joined Strong, while Hale spoke with some of the event’s participants.
The Fox Sports app and WestminsterKennelClub.org provided more coverage of the weekend’s events with original content and bonus cameras. Two newly AKC-sanctioned breeds will compete to be top dog this year. The Dogo Argentino (working group) is a strong and intelligent hunting dog from Argentina, originally bred to hunt big game such as boar and mountain lion. The skilled teams will be tested on their speed, agility, scenting ability, and teamwork by completing a series of expert tasks on one of the biggest and toughest K9 obstacle courses ever assembled – designed by experts to mimic real-life challenges that these furry heroes face every day on the beat. Teams will navigate a complex maze to locate scented items and apprehend a suspect in a bite suit with a takedown, among a variety of other challenges. Each week’s winning team will receive $10,000 and an additional $5,000 to donate to the animal charity of their choice. In the final week of competition, top competitors will return to the finale course to battle for the title of “America’s Top Dog” and an additional $25,000 cash prize.
Series host Curt Menefee is an award-winning veteran studio and game broadcaster who currently co-hosts “Fox NFL Sunday” in addition to wrap-up show “The OT.” Alongside Menefee, expert trainer Nick White is both a former US Marine and member of the Secret Service with years of experience working with K9s as the owner of a dog training company with locations across the country. Menefee and White watch the action unfold on the course each week and provide in-depth explanation on the competition rounds. Jamie Little is a seasoned motor sports reporter covering the pit road for FOX NASCAR, as well as an animal rescue ambassador who served as a reporter at the 2019 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Little acts as sideline reporter on the course speaking with the teams as they make their way through the competition.
NBC will celebrate man’s best friend in the 18th anniversary edition of the family-favorite holiday special “The National Dog Show Presented by Purina®,” airing Thanksgiving Day (noon-2 p.m. in all time zones), Nov. 28, following the telecast of NBC’s “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.”
“The National Dog Show Presented by Purina®” will be hosted by award-winning TV personality, author and Broadway star John O’Hurley (“Seinfeld,” “Dancing with the Stars”), and expert analyst and American Kennel Club-licensed judge David Frei, who has officiated at dog shows worldwide. NBC correspondent and sports broadcasting Hall of Famer Mary Carillo will report from inside the show ring, with former U.S. Olympic figure skaters Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir offering behind-the-scenes access as backstage contributors.
“Can you imagine any show lasting 18 years in this world of televised programming?” said O’Hurley. “David and I are grateful to hide behind the shadows of these wonderful creatures that we get to share one day a year. America is greater because of its dogs.”
A new American Kennel Club-sanctioned breed will be included in this year’s competition, bringing the total recognized breeds to 193. The Azawakh (hound group) is a loyal, independent and deeply affectionate sighthound known for its short coat, long and lean appearance and excellent companionship and guardianship. Since 2003, 46 new breeds have been introduced to the event.
Last year, a 3-year-old male Whippet named Whiskey took home the Best in Show title among the seven group winners. Whiskey has more than 20 Best in Show titles and went on to win the American Kennel Club’s National Championship in January.
The “National Dog Show Presented by Purina®” is a beloved holiday tradition for families across the nation. The telecast reached nearly 25 million viewers over Thanksgiving week last year, delivering its third-best score in total viewers since its first broadcast in 2002. The show is part of a five-hour block of family programing on NBC, offering the country’s 65 million pet-owning households a full afternoon of fun entertainment while raising money for canine-related causes. In its unique format, the Kennel Club of Philadelphia offers an open environment for the esteemed event and remains one of the only “benched” dog shows, displaying all 2,000 competing purebred canines to the visiting public.
Continuing the family fun, NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) will present a Thanksgiving Day marathon (beginning 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT) of “The National Dog Show Presented by Purina®,” featuring all five Best in Show winners from 2014-18. On Friday, Nov. 29, NBC will present a primetime encore of this year’s “National Dog Show Presented by Purina®” (8-10 p.m. ET/PT).

Maria Menounos, host of the leading female Apple Podcast, ‘Conversations with Maria’ and her dogs, Whinnie and Maximus, are helping to kick off this year’s #EveryDogIsAStar initiative.

The Beverly Hills Dog Show will feature some of Hollywood’s famous faces and pet lovers, including “Extra” host Mario Lopez, “High School Musical” actress Ashley Tisdale, three-time Olympic gold-medalist Shaun White, “America Ninja Warrior” co-host, Akbar Gbajabiamila, “Manifest” stars Parveen Kaur, Melissa Roxburgh and J.R. Ramirez, Triple Crown-winning jockeys Victor Espinoza and Mike Smith and more to cheer on their favorite breeds ringside as the dogs strut their stuff for Best In Show honors. This year’s show will feature more than 1,500 dogs representing more than 200 eligible breeds competing for the top prize.
